Buying habits

I'm not really sure how, I think it was because we were looking through some sales adds and she commented on the price of a particular item she saw, but my wife and I got into a discussion about peoples buying habits. It got me curious. How many of you here buy things because it's a certain brand or style of something? Some examlpes would be clothes, tools, things you use around the house, etc.
