What's with Starbucks'?
$3.59 for third rate Colombian coffee at Starbucks, whereas I pay $.55 a cup for super premium Puerto Rican coffee at the family owned and operated coffee shop that's next door to my office.
Them young urban non-chalant professional types must know something I don't.

Not a snow balls chance in hell.... anyone that would pay four bucks for a freaking cup of coffee is a MORON, not opinion, fact.

...It ain't "Americano". It's a cuppa Joe!
don't knock Starbucks, I just invested in it.
That was dumb. People wont pay that much for 16 oz of coffee over 1 gallon of gas.
The local hardees gives free coffee before 7am, and free on tuesday mornings.
What's with Starbucks'?
not me.
I agree with you guys I just am not going to pay $3.50 every day to drink something that should run about .50
I have no vested interest in these, but here it goes:

They use really, really good paper cups. [:D]
At Starbucks, it's clean, fast, and I get to listen to good music. For 36 cents more, it's worth it to me.
All that said, once these gift cards run out I'm going to have to quit and that is going to be a BEAR.
As far as I know, there are very few of them. Two here in Sterling and a couple up in the Northwest.

The good Doctor was kind enough to send me a can. It is GREAT COFFEE!
Do what the Doctor sez...
Thanks again, Dr. J.!
The bonus is that the girls that work at my local Starbucks are REALLY CUTE! So I don't mind so much paying the $1.85.

A few points:
Starbucks house coffee isn't third rate Columbian, its a second rate blend of various Latin American beans, with a characteristic "over-roasted" taste.
A regular "tall" 12 ounce (or 1.5 cup) Starbucks coffee costs only around $2.00 (less, actually, though it depends on where you are buying it).
Sure, thats more than the $1.25 cup at McD's, but its not 3x the cost.
If you want to spend $4.00 on a Starbucks, of course you can, but that money gets you some kind of gigantic 20 ounce monstrosity, with syrup, cream, chocolate, or other flavorings. I'm not saying that's worth $4 either, but its not really fair to compare it to the routine coffee at Dunkin Donuts or McDonalds.
Here's a good tip on how to get a good coffee from Starbucks on the cheap:
http://www.slate.com/id/2133754/
As to why people line up for these overpriced coffees, one simple reason is that the house blend is HIGHLY caffienated, more so than usual coffees. If you consider that caffiene is an addictive stimulant, this partly explains brand loyalty (and also partly mitigates the price, since the cost PER MG OF CAFFIENE is lowered for Starbucks).
Lastly, its not just a coffee, its a BRAND (ie an image, a lifestyle, etc), and that's what's being sold along with the liquid in the cup.
My wife likes Kona coffee, from Hawaii, she thinks its fancy.
