edited February 2004 in General Discussion
My computer crashed, for some reason I haven't figured out. I had to relead windows xp to get it working and in doing so I lost all my data.

Someone suggested a good spell check program on here before and am hoping they will again.

Thanks

There are some around here that try to serve in that function (grammar checkers too) but they tend to be a little snooty....

    All you need is this:

    http://www.m-w.com/home.htm

And of course, some concept of what kind of letters make up the word.

    Hope this helps.

I use the keyboard code for "check spelling" from my text program, and even if the text program is not running, it will check the speling here.

    Yeah!

And it works great as we can see!

Most spelling errors are because we are in a hurry, as was that one I am sure.

There's a hell of a difference between typographical errors and misspelled words. Typically you see the same words misspelled over and over again. Probably the most commom is using an "a" in place of an "e." Such as: "sentance" instead of "sentence" and "differance" instead of "difference."

Then there are the folks who use the wrong forms of words. Words like the following are NOT meant to be used interchangeably.

    To
    Too
    Two

    There
    Their
    They're

    Here
    Hear

    Whether
    Weather

    Effect
    Affect

Software programs like Spellcheck just make people dumber. If you really care about the accuracy of your posts get a dictionary and double-check your spelling before you hit the "Post New Reply" button. If you don't care then just rock on. I type so slow, that a minute more to use the dictionary isn't a bother..not that I would ever make a misteak..[:o)]
