I had my son tear down an old barbecue grill a while back. While he was clubbing the bricks with a sledge hammer he dropped his phone and smashed it to bits. We filed the insurance on it and he got a new phone. Then.....he did almost the same thing to the second phone.

I told him I wasn't paying for another one.....so, he did some work for a family friend in exchange for a phone she wasn't using.

Today.....he tells me he dropped that phone SOMEWHERE in the creek???? He has no clue where it is.

I give up. This boy is on a roll.

You, me, and almost everyone on these forums, grew up WITHOUT a cellphone.

We turned out okay {for the most part [^]}.

Maybe it's time for your son to learn to live a awhile without one too.

Or he can get another one and learn when you make a mistake or lose something.....there are no consequences.

I only have a "flip" phone. It's only for emergencies.
I pay for 450 min. a month and use 15-30.

If he has another phone.....it will be HIS doing....I'm not getting another one. One thing I do know, he will wish he had his phone before this is over with. If he wants to go anywhere and I think he needs a phone.....he will have to take mine....the one with the tracking on it, so I know where it is. I haven't put it on my phone, but that is sounding like a plan!

My youngest daughter was not quite that bad, but still going through them. (I can tell you some stories about one of my wifes friends though) Anyway, my daughter went through several in rapid succession. I keep a bucket of old phones for just such an occasion. OH the horror, a flip phone. OK, break that one and this is the next one in the bucket.... (pulled out an old Motorola Bag phone, its analog and wont even work anymore) but she got the message and pulled her grades up enough to get into dual enrollment and didnt bust the flip phone so I picked up an S4 for her birthday on Woot for a song AND an Otterbox.

This is the barbecue grill phone.....its in an otter box, but it didn't stand a chance. Poor phone. The replacement was an Iphone too.....I was pretty miffed when I found out the insurance charged us a $100 deductible. You can find used Iphones for what my insurance charged for the deductible. So, we cancelled the insurance on the other phones when I learned that.

A friend of mine had some ceptic tank work done and the dirt didn't settle flat in her yard. She had Liam do some leveling work in exchange for a Razormax. That poor phone is in the creek behind our house somewhere.

When one of my sons was a H.S. freshman, he washed his and then lost it at an away game. He got downgraded to the crappiest phone available, that he had to pay for himself. He received that phone after being without one for 10 days.

He never had another problem with phones after that......[:)]

Always ask,, IS THIS GOING TO MAKE ME MORE MONEY ? (No, I don't work).

Then: Is this necessary? (Yes, when I return to the U.S. everything is DEAD) Need to call a few places.

Have a "dual sim" phone. U.S. and Colombia.
No contracts, caller pays in Colombia and U.S. is pay as you go.

One boy has an iphone (could be LG) that costs a months salary in Colombia,, what a waste. Looked up the cost,, 2 Million pesos, or about $800 U.S.D. Think he'd get more "bang" for the "buck" if he was looking for a girlfriend and just "pasted a $50,000 peso bill to his forehead.

I see some good in all of this, at least he is paying for his phone.

I have one of these phones and it is more than I really need. I learned how to use it and its been a good phone for the last 6 years:

Well about a year ago I left it in my pants pocket and washed it[:0]

Needless to say it was toast.

I went on flebay and found one for $11 used. I bought it and changed out simcards and away I go[^]

Now my wife she wants a new phone every year and finds some excuse to get one[V]

I provided a cell phone for my daughter when she was commuting to college 75 miles from home-otherwise my kids didn't have cell phones until they were paying for their own. I didn't see any of them "destroy" a phone when it was on their nickel.
I've seen some phones in "otter boxes" take a heck of a beating including being run over by a full sized pickup and haven't seen one "damaged" like the one shown. Needless to say, my kid would NOT have another phone for a LONG time nor would he be "going out" except to attend school for a considerable length of time.

pretty sure that damage looks intentional IMHO...he cant sign a contract for a phone so i guess you are...can you say flip phone???

kinda like the jeep just quit running.....yep when it went under water

I'm thinking a Dixie cup and a ball of twine [:D]. Also he'd do better with a Pelican Case instead of that Otter "Pop".

..That's what I do too Jeff, but a lot of months go by without using
even 10 minutes. Maybe remembering having a party line makes me a bit
conservative about that stuff. "I sure wish Betty and Marge would get
    off the line!"
