Tesla Coil or Van de Graaff?

..I like toys other than firearms. Thinking of buying a
tabletop Tesla coil or Van de Graaff generator. To you
electro buffs, which would you choose? The Tesla is 50,000
volts and the Van d Gr. is 200,00 volts. I'm looking for
the most impressive display. What would you choose? Thanks.

For tabletop, you can't beat a hand crank van de graf. The human input of cranking adds to the effect.[B)]

..Already have a 10" one of those. I turn it on and it's
good for 5-10 minutes of jollies. Place a penny on top
of it and you'll get a pretty good tingle...and the penny
heats up pretty good too. Probably not good for the unit
though! It has a sound activated mode too. Put it near a
speaker and crank up the Jethro Tull!

..I've never seen a hand cranked Van de Graaff. All
the ones I see are motor powered and spare belts are available.
The gen. belts I mean. What are some of the things you can do
    with either one? Still pondering.
