I saw one the other day, all black, rails on it.
Who makes it, whai caliber.
Reminds me of the rifleman. Should be good for home defense

This one? It's a Mossberg .30-30. [xx(]
Where is the trhow up icon?
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain
When I don't want to leave one of my nicer guns in my truck, I was thinking of
Getting one for my truck gun.
That rifle looks like a fast-handling, versatile workhorse that could be used in the woods or in self-defense situations.
I think it's ugly. But I think AR's are inherently ugly.
Each to his own taste.
That being said I own a Stoeger "Double Defense" in 20 gauge. And absolutely love it. Everyone that shoots mine does. It's the sxs with the light rail.

You can buy a beat up post 64 Winchester for around $200. if you shop around. Duracoat it yourself and have a truck gun that is probably stronger and will function just the same.
Instead of the Mossberg AR variant of the 30-30, shop around for a used Marlin (older JM stamped model).
Have it coated with duracoat in color of your choice and you can even spray the wood. It will be a nice truck gun.
If you want it short, then look for the Marlin 336Y model out now (Youth with 16.25 barrel) and do the same if need be.
There is even a nice 18.5 inch version with a large loop lever on it (336BL).
I have a really nice 336SDT (stainless, straight grip, laminate stock, 16.25 inch barrel) that is the perfect packing rifle and handles quickly.
Doesn't make any sense to me. IMO it's just a way to sell a cheaper made gun for more money.

Exactly, and with a better range of ammo choices, .357, .44 mag, etc. Mine is a trapper model in .45 Colt., compact and a hoot to shoot.
I think my next project will be a Blunderbuss with a green laser site and a front vertical handle with a candle holder for night ops

flashlight and a laser, defeating the intended "small & handy" that
it was meant to be.
All I did on this was add sling swivels for carry. Some high visibility sights might be a good idea. Beyond that I don't think it needs anything else to be a good close range anti personnel weapon. It launches 240 grain JHPs at a clocked 1980 FPS and that should settle anyone's hash right now. Recoil is very manageable and fast shooting is easy. Very compact with the 16" barrel, no magazine or bolt or charging handle protruding.
Too old to live...too young to die...
The late Jeff Cooper used to suggest that a short lever carbine in a pistol caliber might be good for people living where semi-autos are banned. I have worked with such guns enough to know that with practice one can fire off a magazine load in a hurry with good accuracy at sane distances.

Lucas McCain proved that decades ago.
on those Trapper models, they'd be perfect.
