This is the first gun that I have ever owned and was dreading shooting it. I was worrying a lot about nothing. I only shot it 3 times but was surprized that the kick was nothing like I thought it would be. I did hit on paper the first time,in fact dead center but 2 inchs left. I was shooting off handed without a bench. I will bench shoot later this week and see how accurrate it will be. I had my wife with me today and she complained about the noise and I stopped shooting[:D] I tried to get her to shoot it[}:)] Cause for quitting could have been my shoulder,no, that was not it[;)]

I had a 19" barrel Sako Handy in .375H&H. I would go shoot it whenever I started doubting my mortality. Kept the fear up.

I'm jealous! It's good to hear it's reasonable for you to shoot. I look forward to the next post, once you get it zero'd. I've never owned anything chambered in the real big cartridges like that, one of these days I guess, I'll break down and get myself one.

Sheepman, I have virtually the same SAKO except it is the Battue (rifle for driven game) chambered for .375 H&H with the 19" barrel and high ramped rear sight. It is not exactly a pleasure to shoot!

I have a 3000 Mauser 375 H&H that I enjoy shooting. It is a cartridge that you really have to reload for for economic reasons. I would rather shoot it than my Marlin 45-70 with a hot load.

Do not get the wrong idea about kick,I feel it but it is a good feel. The good thing is that the gun is an Encore and I get to rest between shots[:D] Having never shot this caliber,I just thought the kick would be much worse. The barrel is a heavy barrel which might help.

Mark: I have been looking for a Battue in .375H&H for years (I sold the one I bought from B&B and have regretted it ever since). You have a standing offer it you ever want to sell yours!

Well, you boys have finally come to understand the charm of this bad boy. I've got the L61 Sako Custom an it will digest any factory ammo and give you extremely accurate groups at 100 yds. The gun is really a joy to shoot and very comforting to hold when you are in bear country.
A good day on a bench is 50-70 rds and YES, you'd better be rich or reload to shoot this one alot. [:D]

I have never reloaded, what would be the average cost of reloading a box of 20. I bought a box of Remington 270 grain for $24 Saturday.

Depends on which bullet you load in it. I favor the Speer 285 grain Grand Slam in my 375's. If that barrel is any good you should be able to get 3/4" or so groups out of it. The 375 just happens to be one of them inherently accurate cartridges. I have 2 loads in my Remington that will shoot 5/8" at 100 yards with the Speer Grand Slam. 1 using W760 and the other using IMR4350. RL15 is also a good powder for the 375.

I have a model 70 super express 375 H&H.A few years back I fit it with a Kick-eez recoil pad.The Kick-eez really tamed the recoil down, its not any worse than shooting a heavy load in a 12 guage. Far more pleasant to shoot than my 760 gamemaster 30-06.
