Ted Nugent goes hunting

I saw the Ted Nugent show for the first time the other day. It was Michigan opening day for guns.
Nugent was in a big stand that set up about 15 feet on poles. It looked like it was made of plastic. It had solid walls, and a roof. There were rectangular slots, about 8 inches by 2 feet, to shoot from. The stand looked big enough for 4 people.
Nugent looked at the camera and said, "There are 800,000 armed citizens in the Michigan woods today, and I am one of them!"
I liked the way he said that.
By and by a big buck came out at 60 yards. Nugent was shooting a bolt action shotgun, and using slugs. This gun had an unusual scope, very long.
Nugent made a spine shot, right in the middle of the buck's body. I thought at first he had mistakenly made a high, and to the rear, lung shot.
But no, he said that was just what he was aiming for. The buck dropped in its tracks. Nugent looked at the camera and said, "That is a nice buck, but this is Michigan, and we can do it again."
In a few minutes a doe was standing ten yards past the dead buck. He fired, once again a spine shot, the doe dropped.
Then a doe came out at 140 yards. I thought this would be a long shot for a shotgun, but Nugent nailed the doe right in the spine, she dropped dead.
Nugent looked at the camera and said, "Lee Harvey Nugent here, what a sniper!"
The guy is a wild man.
Then, he shot a third doe at 190 yards, right in the spine. He had four deer piled up there, within sight of each other, in that corn field. The guy is a good shot with that shotgun, I didn't know they were that accurate.
I sure wouldn't want to gut 4 deer in one day, I guess Nugent has some servants to do that work.
He said he was going to donate the venison to a "Hunters for the Hungry" program.

Actually if you ever see him on an interview away from the hunting shows he is extremely intelligent and well spoken. His wife is the same way. The two of them have done several talk shows and have left the hosts amazed at how level headed and articulate they are.

All of us have our quirks. I personally dont like hunting from a stand like that but he does. The fact that he donates the venison is admirable...we have the same program in Texas and Arkansas and lots of hunters give their 2nd or 3rd tag kill to this organization.

I would take more of his type speaking out for us than more of Sweaty Teddy or Dianne Frankenstein or any of the other anti-gunners or anti-hunters speaking against us.

I think pretty highly of Ted myself. Personally, I like his character.

140 yards with a shotgun? Not bad, not bad at all!

Nugent is certainly over the top. You could make the case that calling himself "Lee Harvey Nugent, the Sniper" was in bad taste.
    But...
I like it that he is out celebrating the fact that he is one of 800,000 armed citizens in the Michigan woods.
I like it that he is a good shot.
How many rock and rollers/movie star types celebrate the second amendment, and hunting? Very damn few.
I have always said, if a guy is hunting legally, and he makes humane kills, and he sees to it that the meat is eaten then he is ok with me.

I like Ted. I don't agree with everything he says, but being a glass half full type of person, I think he does more good then bad.

Ted Nugent is indeed a very interesting person. While I feel he is a bit over the top in many instances (most of the time)as I'm sure most of you do, he still promotes gun ownership and hunting on a daily basis. He promotes strong hunting ethics. He tries in his own way to educate the ignorant anti-gun people of this country. He supports our troops with a great passion. He believes in the strong traditions of deer camp and other family hunting traditions. He believes and promotes responsible parenting and our obligation to educate and mentor our youth. He promotes with great passion ANTI drug, tobacco, and alcohol abuse. He gets high on nature. His family only eats at home what they harvest from the land themselves. He loves our great country that abounds with natures incredible renewing resources. "He's a very different person for sure, but I have great respect and admiration for a man who can do it his way. To have made his money in rock and roll and be free from chemicals is truly amazing to me. He never lets his guard down. There are a great number of politicians, hollywood types, and other people in the public eye that share our passions for gun ownership and shooting sports that do absolutely nothing to promote these interests because they are too concerned about what kind of negative slant may be cast on them. That is certainly not true with the Nuge. Yes he appears a bit crazy and a little over the top and it's hard to agree with how sometimes he chooses to promote shooting and hunting, but who else do we have? He also puts on an amazing show with incredible energy for a guy his age. " I say machine guns for all the kids"!! (Ted Nugent Milwaukee 8/07)

I have seen a few of his interviews and he seemed pretty level headed to me. I'm sure it is our different expectations of the man.

On a side note I heard a song on XM Deep tracks the other day. it was an acoustical guitar and I actually thought it might be Chet Atkins. It was Ted!!!

    A very talented man.

Oh boy. Ted. I guess if you like guys who defacate and pee on themselves for a solid week and don't clean that off before going in for their pre-draft physical, all to get out of going to Vietnam, then he is an OK guy. Personally, I think he's looney as a dodo bird.

Hm. I've seen a few of his interviews, didn't see anything that much off base. Could you be a bit more specific, maybe I missed something. I am just curious, I am not trying to start an argument or pick on you or anything.
