Today was my first time ever skeet shooting. I had a pretty good time. So which sport takes more skill trap or skeet? I hope I'm not trying to compare apples and oranges, just asking for your opinions.

Good fun to be had, isn't it? My friend and I launch skeet for each other all the time and have a hell of a time turning them into clouds of dust. [:D][:D] My trusty Benelli Nova 12GA takes care of 'em every time![}:)]

I personally think that skeet is more challenging, and more fun. I like it when you bust one coming out of the high house and you get pelted with pieces of clay pigeon.

Skeet are best but they need to be fried crispy. Trap are tough and stringy. Sporting clays have a wild taste.

    Hope this helps.

uh...neither...no matter how ya cook'em,those kinda pigeons taste like ca ca.

I think i have to be one of the very few that actually goes woodcock hunting. And I don't miss many. Hence when I hit a trap, or skeet range I do well. The first time Pabooger ever took me I was 13..and went like 18 out of 20. Went to local range bout 10 years ago and went 25 for 25, 3 rounds in a row. waste of ammo...i wanna shot food, or a car that we've tied the steering wheel all the way left on, and bricked the gas. minutes of hilarious fun......

I would shoot skeet over trap any day.
Gonna try sporting clays some day.

What's the big deal with skeet. The targets come from a predictable spot and fly a predetermined path every time. Once you get the hang of it the only thing you have to do is show up sober to do well. Atleast with trap there is a little bit of un-predictability in the target flight. They are both equally boring when compared to sporting clays or bird hunting.

    Dave,,,

    IMHO,,,skeet.

However,,,shoot trap a lot, (if'n your just starting) it will help you with your skeet scores. Now this is going to sound somewhat silly, but,,when you get frustrated after a time when you just can't do any better, shootin' trap,,,, skeet will in turn help your trap scores.

Trap, easier to learn...harder to master. Birds are flying away from you, but the angle changes with each call.
Skeet, harder to learn...easier to master. Birds are crossing at hard angles, but they follow the same path each time. Station 8 is the hardest shot on the field to learn, but once you learn it, it's the easiest shot to make.

Why have I not been able to bust more than 23 out of 25 birds?

So true, I can go through 3 or 4 stations without a miss and then blow a straight away shot. I think thats why I love trap, it is a inside psych job. Kinda like golf.[:)]

Done skeet. Done trap. Done sporting clays. Like the challenge of sporting clays. Last trip was a place in northern Alabama, shot sporting clays all morning, shot quail all afternoon. Live does not get any better than that.[8D]

It must be right, or we wouldn't do it this way!

I have shot skeet 3 times. First was a 16, next was a 22, and the last was a 24. Once you learn the lead it is pretty predictable.

Trap is a mind game and it is you against your own mind. I remember when I broke 20, then a few months later 25. If you can focus for 6 seconds at a time, every time, you will have clean rounds. But when you get on a roll your mind wanders and one gets away from you.

So far 200 straight is my best score at trap.

When skeet gets too easy drop down to the smaller guages or try International. (Even if you don't have an International field you can shoot from the low gun & get the trap boy to give you a delayed pull.
Combine that with a .410 pump & that will put some sport back in it.)
I prefer skeet simply because you get to interact more with the other people you shoot with.

Dang man you made it sound like I had a Perazzi! I shot my 3200, he had a Krieghoff (sp) K-80 complete with a full set of briley inserts. He wipped on me pretty good in skeet, actually he missed once! ONE bird in four hours. But he would not trap shoot against me, which is kind of why I asked the trap or skeet question on the board. And Dave, I'm looking forward to tom. I shot some pretty good scores today, my arm is a little hurt from all this shotgunning lately though....
