edited May 2017 in General Discussion
Had an inkling for some Brats ran off to the grocery store and bought a 12 pack of Johnsonville Brats a relatively local company. Fired up the grille and while the grille was getting ready boiled the brats in beer an onions. Seeing that they were beer Brats a little more wouldn't hurt, guess I was wrong. Probably the last time to.

Wiener envy. You're not supposed to boil your little fellas. You prick them and dangle them over a girl. I mean grill. Boiling them causes premature emasculation.
    I may be a bit crazy - but I didn't drive myself.

Johnsonville will take a ruler to the back of your hands for boiling their brats in anything. (but everybody does it anyway)

No big loss, they are terrible brats! I've turned into a sausage snob, since I started going to this local place called "The Sausage Shop". They have THE BEST brats and hot Italian sausage!

Wish I'd have thought to go there before today......

Just get Kielbasa and cut to fit.

Johnson's are fine in regular dog buns.

Just be careful whose buns you slip your Johnsons in.

I like the Johnsonville hot Italians.

Hell, you are in Milwaukee Armilite! Head on over to Glorioso's on Lakeshore and get some real sauasage! There is a bakery across the street that has real Italian sesame seed buns, get some![:)]

I cook my brats like so. I roll them up in aluminium foil and pinch the ends up tight as to seal them up good. Broil at 450 in the toaster oven for about 15 minutes. Once unrolled from the foil they come out fully cooked and so tasty because basically they are being boiled in their own savory juices and spices.
I also marinate the brats in Italian dressing and siractcha sauce for at least 24 hour prior to cooking them.

Ya gotta try this method of cooking!

Bummer. The misses and I are big fans of Johnsonville brats. I just buy the original version and either boil them in beer/fry them, or just grill them.

I consumed a few of those 12 z High Life's myself last night, along with Johnsonville Cheddar and Jalepeno sausages. Mine were done on the grill, while I drank the beer instead of wasting it in a skillet!

That probably would have been a better idea. The buns we used were nothing special. They came from the bakery part of the store instead of the cheap ones on the shelves. They weren't that much bigger then the shelf ones, just better quality.

It was a spur of the moment thing and there are tons of places to get better quality sausage.

Back in the day that is what I grew up with and that is what I'm used to domestic style beer. It wasn't until the last 5-10 years that all these other craft beers came on the market. They are all to confusing to me and most of them taste some what bitter. I'm not even gonna attempt to make a change as I don't drink beer all that often.

When Retroxler58 was in town a few months back I took him for a tour of the Lakefront Brewery. It was a real good tour and the tour guide was hillarios just ask Robert. We tried 4-5 different beers and of those there was only one I'd try again.
