Best Bino's....

Under $250??? I'm looking to get another pair of binoculars for the truck. Price range is $150-$250. Preferably 10x 42. I just started to look through the cabelas catalog today. I haven't gone to any stores to check them out first hand yet. I'm considering the vortex diamondbacks or maybe Nikon monarch. What's your favorites?

the Nikon Monarch is a good one. Sometimes Natchezz Has Refurbs (same warranty as new) for a good price. I hate Natchezzn but they have good prices on Nikon.

Yeah, I get the Natchez flyers all the time. Never actually bought anything because the few times I've tried the entire flyer was "out of stock"

I have a pair of Nikon Action 10-22X50 10X that were around $150 and they are quite good binos. They accomplish everything I need out of them. Cabela's has it for $99, they were $150 a couple years ago. Nikon Monarch's 10-x42 are $249 at Cabelas.

There are no really good binos for under $250, but there are better binos today for under $250 then you could get for any price in 1970. I get a lot of color fringing with Nikon glass, perhaps ok for hunting, not for birding, where you do not want to see red where none exists.

I use Vortex as travel binos. Depth of field is a little shallow, but clarity edge to edge is good and no color fringing. This is in 10x42. The pair I use were more than $250.

I was on the same boat as you about 3 years ago and I've considered the 2 mentioned. They are very good and a good buy. However, I went with Minox 10-42 (http://www.cameralandny.com/optics/minox.pl?page=62153) for $149, for my intended purpose and my eyesight, they are better than the above. My friend had the Monarch ATB but purchased the same Minox binocs too. [:p]




Don't overlook the Scheel's brand (sorry can't remember the model) if you're near a Scheel's store.

I've got a pentax 8 x 42 for my truck, steiner for my backpack. I've been really happy with both.

I got a good price on Minolta bino's at Ritz camera back when they were still around. 8x42. I don't like compact binos. They magnify any jitter. 10 power are just too heavy for the increase in magnification. I throw away the strap that comes with them then get a neoprene camera strap. Yeah, camera dealers handle binos.

I bought a pair of compact Steiners at a Pheasant Forever fundraiser and they are great.
Try a pair of Swarovski's just once and you'll dream about them forever!
I only wish I could afford or justify that money for them.

IF I could afford the best, I would be sporting a pair of Leicas around my neck.

Warbirds

If/when I buy a pair I shop for them used on the auction side or in pawn shops.

Not something I personally like to pay top dollar for.
