Tell me about Springfield 1911s

I found a Springfield 1911 that someone would like to trade me for my Glock 17. The slide is a little worn on the 1911. Sound like a decent trade? He also offered me a SIG P226.

    I own both,the Glock is a better gun,keep it.

If you want something other than a Glock and like the Sig trade for it.

Pass on the Springfield but I'd jump all over the P226 in a heartbeat if he is talking about a straight up trade for the Glock.

Looks like a mil-spec, which is on par with the Glock for retail value. I love the Springfield, but you can do better than straight-up for your Glock on that particular model. Get one anyhow. [:)]

Market price-wise, I think the Sig might be the best deal. As far as which gun I'd pick to keep, I'd take the 1911. I had a Glock and a Springfield 1911. Don't have the Glock anymore, still have a 1911.

I'd take a 1911 over a full-size Glock any day. A subcompact Glock may be more convenient for deep concealment than a 1911, but for a full-size gun the 1911 is unbeatable, and Springfield is by far the best value in a 1911, and not far off from top quality.

I traded my glock 27 for a springfield armory mil-spec 1911.I took it to the range then went and bought another s/a 1911 in stainless.
I am satisfied with the Springfield armory 1911s

If you like the 1911A1, the Springfield Armory is the best in my opinion, next to an orinal pre-war Colt in perfect condition. P226 is one of the most highly engineered and evolved modern pistols made. It's clearly worth more than any stock SA 1911, and in my opinion is worth more than any Glock ever made. I'd go for the trade and throw in a few bucks just to get my hands on the Sig.

How new is your Glock? Does it have rails and finger grooves?

Can you shoot the SA before you trade? Are you getting someone else's problem? If the SA was loaded (ambi safety, better sights, beavertail grip safety, better trigger) I would trade.

If not I would pass. Your Glock will be 100% more reliable, not need custom work, and most likely shoot better.

How beat up is the Sig?
CDNN has a sale running on used Cop Sigs for $369 to $429. Your Glock used, if a Gen 3, is worth $425 to $450 used.

Ya my Glock is a 3rd generation and in excellent condition. The SIG P226 is two tone, with very minor wear. The only rust I saw was on the grip screws.

Ive had alot of experience with the Springfield 1911's and own two myself a 1911A1 Loaded and a Tactical Response Pistol (TRP)like the FBI Hostage rescue team uses. They are top quality made Handguns Im wanting one of the Hi Cap models they offer. One thing I will tell you that applys to Springfields 1911's and that is they take a long time to break in.After I bought my first one and realized how long and hard the were on the hand to set and rack the slide over and over I bought gloves and used them after about 300RDs of ammo shot threw it.The gloves made racking the slide much more pleasnt on the hands.Their guns are extremely tight.A Reminder to never release the slide unless your chambering a round as releasing the slide and letting it slap can damage the action.Good Luck!!

226 two tone goes for $399 in CDNN. Figure transfer and shipping and it gets right up there.

I just bought a used Glock 17 gen3 with night sites for $450. I like all the cheap hicaps available now and I shoot pretty good with it. I already have a GK21 & a Kimber. If you shoot good with it, I wouldn't swap it for either of those guns.

The SA most likely needs a trigger job. Depends on what you want to do.
