did anyone else go to the race? the playing of taps this year was very good-it put the meaning of memorial day up front-the soldier who played it did a very very good job-did they show it on tv?

Last time I was at Indy was when I was 9, in 1954.

Dad took me by train from Phila. to Indianapolis.

We were in the second turn stands when Bill Vukovich, Sr.
one of Dad's favorites - The Mad Russian - went airborne
and came down upside down, killing him - lots of flames
and smoke! A piece of chainlink was wound around his cockpit
and they couldn't get him out fast enough. It was very bad.
My dad was so shaken up that we flew home in an old SuperConnie
and he never went to another - nor did I.

Every year, watching it on TV brings back some pretty fine
memories - but that's not one of them!
