I have a 2001 dodge quad cab 318 motor I have owned since new, about a month ago the transmission started acting up, when I came to a stop the torque converter would not release and it would die, I drove it into the transmission shop,,they said bad converter so I had the whole transmission rebuilt, since it has 200,000 miles on it. They kept it over 3 weeks and kept telling me it had a problem they cant find, I picked it up today,,,,the problem is it now has NO power,,it runs good, it drives good, it shifts good but if you hit the gas like to pass someone,,it just bogs down, I thought I was going to have to push it up my steep drive,,the tranny shop is claiming the tranny is good that I must have another problem but I had no power problem BEFORE it went into the shop,,does this sound like a bad torque converter or since they put in a new one maybe they installed a wrong one,,its under warranty and going back next week,,advice ????

Sounds like your linkage from the accellorator to transmission needs adjusting/fine tuning, I'd take it back to them [;)].

Sounds like a number of things from an unplugged MAP to a pinched gas line or any number of things inbetween. All that can be done here is guessing.

your catalytic converters are plugged. very east to check. take your o2 sensors out if they are before the converters and drive it. if they are not before the converters, loosen up the y pipe and drive it.

After they make SURE the trans/convertor is good, have them check this:

Other peripheral longshots, Crank position or cam position sensors. I had a 05 Dakota that was doing the same thing you described. I just shifted to neutral at every stop. It would always clear up and run right after it warmed up. Never coded. I went "witch-doctoring" and changed IAC, Intake air temp sensor, Cam position sen. but never the coolant temp sen. I just thought about this the other day and it bothered me. It was a 4.7 with a 545rfe tranny. Had 263K miles so I squeezed my moneys worth out of it. The rear end was slipping pretty bad and the exhaust manifolds had popped 3 studs on each side, so it needed time and money. So I claimed defeat and got a CRV. It may have been to your advantage if they had put in a Jasper tranny because they have a great guarantee. There's alot of complicated electronics between the engine, tranny and computer. If your problem is in there, good luck.

In the transmission there is a TCC (Torque Convertor Clutch) solenoid thqt makes the torque convertor not slip when at cruising speed. When they get stuck open it won't disengage and will keep the engine and transmission locked together like a manual transmission with the clutch engaged. When it is stuck open the car will stall when stopped and the torque convertor won't slip and multiply torque under demand (i.e. hard acceleration, etc). Common problem on cars with high mileage but easy to fix

I would also suspect you might have a TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) that needs replaced, it may not be feeding correct info to the ECM. They usually are pretty crapped out by the 100k mile mark so if you haven't replaced it yet I would do that as well, it'll improve how the car runs/drives in general

Dang, I wish I knew all this a couple years ago. I got rid of a fairly nice truck.

I think Babun may have hit it, I drove it again today when I was not quite as pissed off,,it has no/zero passing gear, the overdrive will not turn off, even if you manual click it off it disengages for about 30 seconds and then turns itself right back on. sometimes it has a very hard sift up into drive and sonetimes when coming to a stop it downshifts way to soft back into first and wants to studder when you pull back out,,either way its got to go back to the shop [:(!]. I know they installed a new torque converter anda new pump,,it just may not be adj correctly
