Blood sugar gone haywire

Had a Dr.'s appointment last Wednesday for A1C test. My blood sugar was 674. I rarely check my blood sugar---have been diabetic for several years and take insulin twice a day. That morning I had a "low blood sugar" attack and drank some OJ with a couple of small donuts before my appointment.

I decided to start checking and keep a record for my Dr. I have another appointment next Wednesday.

Yesterday morning with empty stomach: 1st test--46. Tested again--49. At 1:15pm it was 335 and all I had was a bowl of cornflakes with sliced bananas. At 3:15pm it was 621. At 6:15pm it was 71.

This morning (empty stomach) it was 36 (dangerously low). Tested again--33. At 12:45pm today it was 143.

My Dr. and myself have no clue what's going on.

My son has the same problem. 46 yoa, had RnY surgery about 5 years ago. He has a device attached to his upper arm, and can read glucose levels electronically by waving a monitor over it. Gets it up to 110 or so, then it dives to 30 or 40. No answers yet, but is trying to schedule a study at the UW to try and diagnose it.

At 46 I would unconsciousness. Below 60 I cannot talk. You need a long term insulin to take out those highs and lows. I use Lantus. It even comes in a pen.

Glucometers do fail and you can have a lot of bad strips.

Lean meat and green vegetables for lunch and dinner. Eggs and meat for breakfast. Very minimal carbs, as in practically none.
