I didn't want to hi jack Riflemikes thread!
I have a friend in the salvage business.
He deals with municipalities, school districts, public trans systems, etc.
He buys all of their outdated or out of service vehicles. Sometimes 100+ at a time!
I first met him at a little tavern I go to for lunch. He pulls in, in a short yellow School bus and walks in. Only one guy knew who he was. He orders a double vodka something and the bartender was laughing so hard, she could hardly make the drink!
As he ordered his 3rd drink, I finally asked "What time do you have to pick the kids up?"
Then the truth came out! It was hysterical!
He drives around in Ambulances, garbage trucks, squad cars, buses, etc!
Such a cool business!

He got a bunch of Ambulances from some department or municipality in New Jersey a year or so ago and was beating the hell out of one in an old Wal Mart Parking lot. You know, checking the engine, trans, and brakes etc!
He gets back to his shop and his guy he bought them from is calling him.
Apparently some tracking device on the ambulance had not been disabled and the dispatchers were panicking wondering why there was a "rogue ambulance" driving recklessly around a town 5-7 states away!

A local plumbing company buys some of his ambulances and uses them as work trucks.
    He calls himself "PLUMBING 911"

Sounds like a interesting line of work...

Bet he finds some cool objects in these vehicles.

    Oh, he does!!
I know one time he found some sort of folding stretchers that he sold on ebay for about what each ambulance cost him!
I think he told me there is like over 250lbs of copper wire in an ambulance too!

Back in my wilder youth,,the group I rode with had a legitimate business of buying retired School Buses and converting them into campers,,they had a good following from hunting camps and the hippy crowd,,this was way before this new idiotic tiny house stuff. I lived in one for about a year, If I could find one built the way they did them,I would much prefer it over most modern campers you see now
