M1 Garand from DCM received..... kinda

I ordered an M1 from Dept of Civilian Marksmanship in mid August. It came in today. FedEx left a note on my door that there was a package & I could pick it up after 18:00. In the mean time my wife called from her office and informed me that she had my rifle in her SUV and could I come get it since no weapons are allowed on company property. It seems that the chick driving the FedEx truck knew where my wife worked and took it there. Would have been OK except she brought it into the lobby and loudly announced to wife's secretary that she had a gun to deliver and knew that was what it was because her dad receives packages from the same place. Wife's secretary signed for it and put it in my wife's office. This is a small town, but me thinks perhaps FedEx should run a little tighter ship. Do you guys think a note to DCM would be appropriate ? Aside from all that I was amazed I got it so quick.[:)] -Don

    Don

My only suggestion is to increase the size of the picture at the bottom of your post so that I can evaluate what those girls are packing? [:p]

I think a note to the local Fed Ex distribution center needs a note written. Whatever is being delivered is no buisness of the truck driver. To have a delivery truck driver walk into a place of buisness and annouce what is being delivered is like having a delivery truck driver tell one's parents that they're dropping off a box of porn DVDs that their child ordered. Some things are just common courtesy.

No, that didn't happen to me. I was just using it as an example.

Most rural drivers are a small business contracted by FEDEX. Find out if that is the case. If so; stop by and tell her your concern. Sometimes folks trying to be helpful can cause unexpected problems for others. Sounds like this is the case in this instance.

Well, she went out of her way to get it to you. Even a little. And she sounds pro-gun. Probably trying to be friendly is all. I say cut her a break.
Your time would probably be better served writing a letter to your wife's company to tel them how stupid their policy is.

A while back FedEx delivered a package here. He needed it signed for so he yelled through my daughter's window (she works nights as a dispatcher) and scared the stuff out of her. Next time he shows up with a case of ammo from DCM complete with list of weapons the ammo fits (machine guns, tank guns, etc)on the crate and asks what kind of work I do. Daughter says"he shoots things". Driver asks what kind of things. Daughter says"just about anything someone wants shot". Driver jumps in truck and burns out of the drive. Now he drives in ,honks , throws the stuff in the driveway, and beats it down the road.

FedEx girl might have violated the brady law, it is illegal to identify a package as being a firearm[V]

If it were me, I wouldn't say anything. She was trying to do you a favor and used a little poor judgment. Not a big enough deal to cause her problems.

let it go,I have had fedex and ups both drop guns and ammo at my wifes store when I am not at home to recieve it,our ups guy knows the long packages are guns and figures its better to leave them there than on my porch.I had fedex leave a 1911 on the door step one time,,,she thought she was doing you a favor, she knew it was a rifle and knew your wife would get it to you,,,again I vote to let it go.
