375 Winchester Magnum for CCW

I saw a Thompson Contender in 375 Winchester Magnum at the local gun store. The salesman told me it would send a 235 grain bullet out at 1800 feet per second. They also had a shoulder holster for the Contender there at the store. I think I will buy them.

My question is do you think it is sufficient combination of gun and caliber for concealed carry? I live in a rough neighborhood.

A single shot for a ccw? Are you sure you don't want this for anything other than show? I'd have to think a 380 to a 45 acp either in a wheel gun or semi-auto for personal defense...NOT a single shot.

I'd agree with Greeker on this one, especially as low as the hit percentage actually is in defense situations... If you're gonna do that, just get a contender in .45-70 or something.

The 15 shot Glock 20 (10mm) can shoot hot non-plus P loads that rival what you're after. Doubletap ammo makes a 135 grain model that is ~1600 fps and 767 ft.lbs.

The 10mm - either you've got it, or you don't get it...

If your neighborhood is in Africa and your buddy has a battle rifle as back up it may work as a CCW. For all other situations I would go with a 10mm. my 2 cents [8D]

I think it would be perfect. You should get two of them, one for each hand. And put a scopes on them as well. Anything with less than an eight inch barrel should not be considered as use for a concealed firearm.

if you are worried about "power" get a Desert Eagle in .50AE, or a Taurus in 454.

A single shot does not bother me. I am very accurate. The salesman did say I would have to parctice reloading fast.

Don't listen to them benzapped. One shot is all you need. The quickest way to reload a single shot is to carry an extra shell in your teeth at all times so that you have it handy if you do happen to need it. But I'm sure you won't.

    He, he, he.

Oh, while I was at the gun store I looked at a 22 mag to take on my African safari next month. Do you think that will be too much gun for Cape Buffalo?

I suggest you take a Hi-point 9mm pistol and go grizzly hunting...you'll find it challenging and rewarding. [:D]
