We had two juvenile detention officer's bring in a 16yr old from
Sulpher Springs today, the detention officer told me that this kid was in police custody and for us to send the bill to their office cause they are resposible for the kid.
The kid was complaining of tailbone pain that he got a few days ago from a dirt bike accident,so they have to give them medical attention.
They went back to the room and then took the kid to x ray the detention officer's didnot go with him instead they sat in the room one read a magazine the other talking on the phone. After awhile xray called back over because they had to redo the xray's the nurse said he is not here you dont have him.
After the xray's were done the kid said that he would walk back to his room instead he bolted down the hall down the stairs and out the front door wearing nothing but his tennis shoes, hospital gown and his boxers. The time frame for the detention to notice he was gone was 20 minutes.
They had Greenville,Hunt CO,State troopers, the dogs and lifestar helicoptor looking for him. As of 400 still no luck.
The detention officer tried to place the blame on us that we let him go wrong thing to say infront of me..Been there long enough and dealt with enough of these that I know the rules. My supervisor was telling me to hold off saying anything till she pulled the procedures. I said procedures I know the procedures after she read them she looked at me and said Ok go for it.
He is custody he is your responsibility you need to stay with him and watch him,not only that when they walked in I asked him if he was in custody and he said yes and gave me all the information I needed so that their county could pay the bill.So come to find out we were right and they were wrong and they are going to have a long long ride home but I am glad that it is them and not us...
