With this ugly old 16ga bolt action shotgun, I killed my first rabbit, dove, and coyote as well as several squirrels though not my first. Over the years I also took a few quail with this petunia. This was also my first "deer rifle".. obviously my dad wasn't a big hunter. I only carried this thing my first deer season, I saved up and got a rifle the next year. My dad passed away in May, so it's mine now, I think I'll bring it out of retirement for old time sake.

Beauty is not just aesthetics and ugly is just a word. The way you described it and its history, sounds like you have the Beauty and the Beast all in one. Keep and cherish it

That is one ugly gun. I think every 16 gauge I've seen has a polychoke.

Looks a lot like my Mossberg 385K(20ga) that my Dad
gave me when I was about 13.Not pretty, but killed
a million or so critters until I upgraded to a Mod.500
quite a few years later.Haven't shot it in years. It just
sits in the safe and would be the last to go if it ever
came to that. It's the only gun my Dad(not a hunter)ever
gave me,so I guess that makes it beautiful!

    Happy New Year!!

Thanks for all the kind words, I'm gonna take it out this week for a small game hunt. Might even have to take it to the turkey woods again in the spring. I've been doing some checking on shells and the selections aren't to bad.

Hey Cletus, I don't think it's so ugly! It's a practal gun from a time when we weren't all so dang affluent and spoiled! A bolt action shotgun actually works fine for 90% of situations. I have lots of expensive shotguns, but still like to take my 59A Stevens out every once in a while for old times sake!

I have a 16 ga JC Higgins bolt. It has a mind of its own. It goes off whenever it wants to. I think it may be a whole lot uglier real soon. The only reason that I've kept it this long is in hopes that Sears will expand its recall to include 16 ga. Cletus, you have one great gun . Money could never replace it.

I have a Glenfield Mod. 60, it's the cheapest gun I have and some would say not the best looking. But I would sell every gun I have before I sold it. It was my first rifle. I bought it when I was 8 with B-day money from a pawn shop in '78. I shot it about everyday for the first 6 years and then off and untill I was about 15 when it started jamming up quite a bit. I guess 7 years without cleaning it finally done it in. Somewhere around when I was 12 I decided it would look better if a sanded it down and put a new finish on it nothing was wrong with the old finish. I just happen to found a can with finish in it in the garage. It keeped jamming so I finally decided to clean it 24 years after I first shot it. Shot it one more time and the slide lock back and thats where it been ever since. So it no longer shoots. But I would never get rid of it. You might look at it and see an old 25 year plus rilfe with rust, crappy stain job of a 12 year old and the locked-up slide and think I was crazy. But it is the most beautiful gun I own.

Can't post pictures yet (the remodel that will include a home office and get the home pooter on line starts Monday), but I have a Grendel P-30. If ever there was an ugly gun this is it. It will spray out 30 rounds of .22WMR as fast as you can pull the trigger, but it is still UGLY!
