I wonder if a small padlock around the shank would defeat that...

    Good to know though. Thanks...

I guess duct taping the doors shut when I'm at a hotel serves more then one purpose then.

    You sure can!

I saw a video a while back where they used a rubberband to open up a chain lock.

chain locks are by and large decorative feel good measures. any able bodied man can shoulder their way through a privacy chain lock with relative ease...

With the size of the screws used in that It would not even slow me down as I came in. May not even know you had it on there.

Probably would. Also I think a coat hanger wire twisted around the shank might be effective.

Why bother with a rubber band when all you have to do is push a little?

If I feel the need for extra security in a Motel Room I just stack someting against the Door so if the Door is opened it makes a lot of noise.

That would wake up the people in the room.

I think the whole point of useing tools, is to be quiet.

I just proved this wrong. Maybe it's an old style lock, but it cannot be done at this hotel. The door must be all the way closed to disengage the safety lock. Closing the door all the way engages the primary lock.

    Busted.

you doubt the efficacy of a chain lock held by 1/4" screws into a piece of door trim....but it looks great

This is the reason I take my wife with me when I travel.
