Based on a modern definition of industry, the country is becoming steadily more industrialized. There is less heavy industry more clean/light industry than 25 or 50 years ago. The electronics, high-tech, computer industry employees more people than all other sectors combined and it has difinitely grown over the past 25 years.

The service sector is still the fastest growing but does not account for as many jobs.

I have to agree hole heartly with you. 25-50 years ago the amount of high school graduates that attended college was realitivly low compared to today's standards. This can be seen by the huge rise in students attending college after high school compared to 25-50 years ago.

shof, Blue collar has definitely declined against white collar(college educated. Many people think of industry as making cars, steel etc., but making computer software is also an industry even though it is not produced the same way, with the large physical infrastructure needed to make cars.

Even in technology however, the amount of physical "stuff" that is made whether that is the computer chips and boards or even the CD on which software is distributed, I think less and less is actually being produced in the US, certainly less than 25 years ago.

So if industry is defined as stuff we make for ourselves, I think we might be making less stuff for ourselves than 25 years ago.

Decline in "Industrialization" is more like it in man power. Since, robotics and computers are more effecient (and not in a union[;)]) can be worked for 24/7 without being narked out to the labor board.

    Less.

Look at real estate in Pittsburgh. Cheap homes...no jobs.
