Next Assignment.....hmmmmm

Hmm....

The Army put this thing online now where you can pick your next spot based on some high needs in certain areas.

It's not a request or a wish list. It basically shoots you to your next spot from what I've been told.

My choices:

1. 2 different places in Korea (Camp Casey, Camp Coiner)
2. A bunch of different recruiter positions which I won't do again
3. Fort Carson Colorado

It all boils down to the fact that I need an overseas assignment in order to be competitive for E-7. I'm leaning towards Korea--leaving at the end of May.

Ever been to Casey or Coiner?

I would take Korea. Don't listen to me though. I'm getting out this year and coming right back as a contractor. The reenlistment bonus was less than a months salary as a civilian. kind of a no brainer [:D]

coiner is the replacement camp that most everyone gets orders to. They will divy you up from there. Being a MP, you can go most anywhere in Korea. You should TRY to get down south a little bit, like Camp Humphries. I spent 15 months(thanks to stop loss) over there in Camp Hovey(attached to Casey).

It wasn't TOO bad. Good shopping(cuban cigars[:D]) and I did Air Assault school over there.

It did land me a divorce though but since you're not married, you should be able to have some fun.

Just watch those female soldiers that are "Princess for a year" over there lol, you will see some of the most BUTT UGLY women acting like they are the SHI$!!! It's funny.

On the other hand, I hear Carson is great. I haven't been there but have friends who have.

I wouldn't go back to recruiting if they offered to promote me to
    E-12!!!!!!! let alone E-8[V][V]

Just for grins and giggles, see if Alaska and Hawaii are still on the list of overseas tours. Lot of Army in Hawaii. Anchorage could be good duty- gets colder in Minnesota than Anchorage. Fairbanks, on the other hand, gets COLD !!![:p]

Take Korea. You better be able to resist temptation though.

Promotions seemed to be quick there, especially with a combat MOS or a critical MOS. I went from and E-4 to E-6 in 9 months while there.

I was there many moons ago and all my time was north of the Imjin River, just across Freedom Bridge, patroling the DMZ.

If you were Air Force, I'd recommend Minot. It's a great place with sandy beaches, palm trees, and the temp doesn't go below 75 degrees.

Nowadays, the quickest way to make E-6 in Korea is to go there an E-7

If you get Carson, I'll buy you a beer. I work on Carson. As an MP, the unit here is pretty good. Also, there is a lot to do in the area. It's a bit of a drive to get to the big ski areas west of Denver, though.

I visited Casey while I was in the ROK, never heard of Coiner.

I found the Koreans to be much friendlier than the Okinawans but I guess that stands to reason as the Koreans are glad we're there and the Okinawans wish we would leave.
I used to recruit for the NRA until they sold us down the river (again!) in Heller v. DC. See my auctions (if any) under username henryreilly

Shot a bunch of ringneck pheasants in and around Camp Casey and poured some M-2 into a few caves.
It was combat rear then, where we lived in squad tents for two winters and a summer. No civvies or paved roads.
A large cat, reported as a Siberian tiger or mountain lion scared our motor pool guard off his post one night.
An occasional trip south to Seoul for a "short time" broke it up some but not enough. In all, it was a place to make grade if you were into
    rough living.
I wonder if I could stand the shock of seeing they moved from the bronze age to a modern country having skipped a bunch of steps.
Returning to the States, it was a shock to see what huge noses American women had.

    KOREA.

Rumor is that with Guam exploding with build up they are sending in Army Patriot Missile batteries to protect the goods here. Now will they give them to the local's....errr the Guam Army National Guard....or will the US Army send in Active Duty to man and guard them?

That's an assignment you want after Korea.
