What are the odds.

Well this is the 2nd time in just 3 or 4 years
that a fishing rod has gone down the hole and
been retrieved, that I have been involved in.
Last Saturday morning I took a customer ice
fishing for pike and he sets up his rod in a
holder. I tell him to make sure his bail is open
so the pike can run with the bait should he get a
pick up. Well we are standing around chewing the
fat early after setting up. I notice his rod bounce
and on the second bounce it comes right out
of the holder, and down the hole it goes.
We have a pretty good laugh at his expense ,and
I tell him the story about my friends fluger
rocket that did the same thing as few years back
and how we caught the same fish the following
weekend with the rod and reel still attached.
Anyway we are close to getting ready to end the
day. So far we have a 12lb on the ice and a 10lb'r
so not a bad day.
His other line gets what appears to be a pick up,
and he waits to give the fish a chance to swallow
the bait, starts reeling and there is fishing line
hooked on his bait so he grabs the line and hand
lines it in till his lost rod comes up through the
hole. Cleans all the weeds of the rod and reels in
the line and still has attached the 8lb Pike that
took his rod. What are the odds.[:p][:D]
Imagination was given to man to compensate him for what he is not,
and a sense of humor was provided to console him for what he is.

Sounds fishy, but if you say so...
The 10mm - either you've got it, or you don't get it...
It has two treble hooks attached to a wire leader. one on the end
and one that slides freely on the wire leader. The leader is usually
around 3 feet long.I use this length of leader so that I can pull
the fish up the hole when the ice is 2 to 3 feet thick. It is illegal
to posses a gaff while angling in Alberta, So the long leader allows
a person to pull a 30lb pike through the ice lessening the chance of
losing the fish. Attached to the rig is a 8" to 12" sardine or
small mackerel. The Pike picks up the bait in shallow water and usually
makes a dash with it from any were between 50 feet to 50 yards. Then
it stops and turns the bait head first and swallows it,hooks and all
I am sure their are some fish that dissolve the hook very quickly but
not as fast as some would believe especially in fresh water. So there
is little chance of loosing the fish due to dissolved hooks even
after several weeks.
