I have had this colt 1911 for several years and curiosity has got the better of me. There are no serial numbers and does not appear to have ever been even under the grips. Just wondering what I possibly may have.
thanks for any replies.

Met a gentleman today with one. Made in 1914 he said. Older gentleman, said he bought it when he was 21. He said it was not the A1 model. Wish I would have had my phone on me to snap a pick. This gun was def. used but fired without a problem the whole time I was there. (400rds)

I'm starting to think about selling my father's government issued Colt 1911. He carried this gun when he went ashore on D-Day.
You ask me "Why would I do such a thing"? Well, I wanted to save it for my 2 sons but neither are interested in firearms. Both would probably sell it for much less than its worth. I live in the New Orleans area and could donate it to the D-Day museum.
What would you do? Keep hanging on to it? Sell it? Donate it? Pass it on to your children not knowing what would happen to it?
I also have a M1 Carbine and Garrand from my father and his brother. I plan on keeping the rifles.

I've been hoping to find one at a gun show that I could check out. It's not pretty, but it's about as close as I can get to an ideal .45 carbine, other than trying to find a decent semi-auto thompson.

I knew they made them for glocks, but I've never seen one made for 1911 before!

Might be cool as a conversation piece, but that is all.

I've seen a couple at shows and in various shops. Ruins the asthetic 1911 looks. Maybe a great idea if (as stated in the "invasion" thread) the government declared martial law and limited each house hold to 1 firearm. Use the 1911 as a sidearm for protection and hunt with the carbine.
Half of the lives they tell about me aren't true.

I just picked up a 1911 that had a "not so good" slide on it. I'm going to use the frame from it to put under one of these. I'm going to use in the next "pistol caliber carbine" match that one of the gun ranges puts on. Otherwise, I couldn't think of a good reason to have one.

Throw a 15 round mag under that, and it should be a lot of fun. Read mostly good reports, so far. I gotta have it put together, and tested, by the 21st of next month. We shall see.

I have owned two of the 1911 Mech-tech conversions and sold a bunch of them. They actually work very well. I know some people that scope them but I always used red dots with great success. I could hit gallon jugs at 100yds just about as fast as you could pull the trigger. These were out before the glock version and they work better. Two things. The slide doesn't lock back after the last round and you have to buy an adaptor if you use a para ordnance. The conversion locks onto the frame with the slide stop and is quick and easy to take apart. Fun toy.
