My barrel is stamped (C MP 5.56 NATO 1/7 HBAR ) can you tell who made this barrel from that INFO ? I know this gun was pieced together with many different parts the upper has ( C H ) stamped near the rear site, and the reciever is Rock Island. The gun groups well just trying to know where all the large componets come from. Thanks Vince

That is a Colt barrel. IS the receiver Rock RIVER? I have not heard of a Rock Island AR.

the detachable rear sight was made by Command Arms Accessories.

yep, the barrel was made by Colt. probably the rest of the upper receiver too, they're not often seperated.

nope, RIA doens't make AR receivers, RRA does.

good luck trying to fugure out where the furniture came from.

the bolt and bolt carrier are not likely to be Colt. bcuz it was probably an M16 upper to begin with, then they put in a regular AR bolt/carrier group to sell it. if it is a Colt bolt/carrier, they will both have a C stamped on them.

You right Rock River. So it looks like the upper is colt Thanks.
When I traded for this rifle the fact that it didn't have a flash suppressor escaped me. We were at the range Friday and when my son fired the gun I noticed the muzzel flash from behind the gun. My question is since this gun is part of my home defense do I want to add this flash suppressor? I think this may be a common sence question. Thanks Vince

yep, it helps for night shooting. so your "night vision" isn't so badly blinded by the flash. otherwise, it's not really necessary except as an attachment point for a bayonet.... and it might not have a lug under the front sight anyways.

uuhh, how is it that the barrel you describe doesn't have a flash suppressor on it? they all came threaded and with a suppressor, does it have something else on?

The barrel looks like it was setup to have the threads cut in but they never cut the threads on the end of the barrel. The end of the barrel is round all the way to the end so your right no lug. I was not worried about that anyway. I don't want to get that close.

C H...Colt (Haynes subcontractor). May be an upper orig. for military contract. Best, Joe

Maybe he has a post ban colt upper like the Match Target, that didnt come with a bayo lug or flash hider/brake?

Flash hiders are so that others don't see the muzzle signature as well. Your night vision will be pretty much shot with or without a flash supressor. Not all Colt barrels come threaded. My Colt Match Target (6601) has the same barrel stamp and doesn't have a flash suppressor on it. It was purchased during the ban. IMHO NC Star is junk.
