So the lovely Mrs. Blue has been going on about how I promised to make a matching oak side table when I made her computer desk (I try to make about one or two projects a year for her). I finally get my butt in gear - even though I could have gone cougar hunting. and get out in the shop. I get all of the boards cut - and all of the tenons cut (mission style with 4444 pieces of wood - ok slight exageration). Lot of the piece work done - I only have a small joiner, and sometimes use it as a small planer (I know call me stupid)so I'm getting the saw cut marks off with the joiner and doing the slats when my finger slips past the guard - Well I hate to say this but I think I screamed like a little girl - and then cussed a bit when I saw the damage. Finger nail completely gone - part of the bone gone and the Doc says I gotta go see a hand specialist monday. [:(][:(]

BlueTic--Sorry to hear about your injury. I hope everything turns out well for you. I accidentally had a glove snag on a table saw I was running in a barn while I was using it to cut up plastic bread crates. That was a nasty cut. I also accidentally ran the freshly-sharpened blade of a box-cutter/utility-knife through the same finger awhile back while I was wrestling with dead hogs. Fortunately it was a finger on my left hand and all is well now with only slight nerve damage to remind me of my clumsiness.

It must be going around, I stuck my finger into a radial arm mounted dado blade last night. I also have to go see a specialist on Monday. At least I was working on somthing for myself (Maple cartridge display cabinet).

Tailgunner - I never thought of putting my dado blades on my radial[:)] That makes a lot of sense - I can quit changing blades on the table saw cause I hardly use my radial (except for long boards). It's an older delta. I'm gonna make the shelves in this side table out of slats - like the sides - but want to make 2 long slat pieces running the length and fit them to the slats running the width. I was planing to just router out the slots, but can make dado cuts faster if the depth is right. Working wood does have its up sides - and it usually makes Mrs. Blue smile....[:D]

Glad to hear I gave you a helpful idea.
Be careful with the set up, I was trim ripping some thin strips (.18 thick x 1.5 wide) to final width (between the fence and the blade) after having made my edge rabbit. To complete the cut I had to go around and pull the piece out the back side of the blade. NO hold down was got me, as I using my hand as the hold down.
You should fare better with the setup your going to be using, along with the thicker stock you will be using.

Need any Maple venier? 12x39x.1, natural, green dyed and a few black dyed pieces (place I got them from used to make skateboards, this is the stock they used to make them from). I think I've got 500+lb of the stuff out in the garage.
