A shotgun has a different set of criteria than a rifle.

You can put virtually anything you want on a shotgun...provided that it is not semi auto (I.E.: Pump, single, doubly, etc.)

I'll try to dig up the laws for the semi-shotguns, but the M4 is not civvie legal right now which is why it has not been released yet. I guess they're hoping for the laws to change...

Gene B. I'm looking for a Benelli as well. I found a few at Shoot Straight in Orlando, FL selling for $1575.00.
There are several modifications to the USMC M1014. After the USMC contract was fulfilled the rest of the production is changed to post-ban (1994) format, details include:

    1. Mag tube is cut, not to allow more than 5 rounds, the military version has eight.

    2. Stock is locked in the extended position, but it not illegal to remove it. It is illegal to remove the pin and collapse it.

    3. Loading latch on the bottom modified not to accept speed loading tubes. No fair, right?

Still has the accessory rail for night vision that won't affect the inertia recoil system unlike in the M1S90's.

    Good luck

So ... one more is looking at Italians eh??

Must say, it was the best X-mas hollyday I ever spent in Denmark.
Went to the scandinavian Importer of Benelli, just about 50 miles miles from where I stayed with my family.

Bought a Super Black Eagle, 12 gauge semi-auto.

And I was lucky enough to hold.. and offcourse wish for the M4 as well.
Now THAT is a MIGHTY fine gun =o_ **dribble**

It does have a short barrel though, to be legal for hunting in Denmark. The special muzzlebrake must be installed permanently, i'd have no compunction about that though - it just looks meaner with that on hehe.

Just be carefull about Benelli... there's ONE thing you ought to know about them. REALLY important...

Once you got one, you will burn the "stars and stripes" and you won't buy domestic again !!

    Regards
    Peter E Jeppesen.
    Happy Benelli owner. =o)

I guess I'll have to go back and research the criteria that makes a shotgun an "assault weapon". Back in 1996 I bought a shotgun. I ordered an extended mag tube and a pistol-grip stock for it as well. It wasn't a folding stock--just a pistol-grip stock. When the parts arrived they were accompanied by a letter from the ATF informing me that the simultaneous installation of both parts would cause the shotgun to be an assault weapon. I had the pistol-grip stock installed and had the extended mag tub sitting in a box. I never installed the mag tube and the letter never said anything about having both readily accessible and in close proximity to the shotgun so that's what I did. Now, I think there is an "out" if the extended mag tub is a permanant fixture from the factory.

    Idsman75:
The BATF is big on "intent to use". Your pistol grip is installed on a post-ban serial number gun. It is ok without the extended mag tube. Although is is not assembled, close proximity can be
considered intent. I'm not sure if the BATF has successfully prosecuted anyone for this, but they would like to.

I forgot to add that the above counts for semi-autos. Pump guns have no limit by the Feds, but some states limit the capacity. quote:

Because the shotgun is semi-auto, you can't get the collapsable stock. That is federal, and state laws vary on length, capacity, etc...Before I figured out the various state, local, federal laws I tried to order the collapsable stock from benelli and just put it on my M1014, but they were having none of that. They were happy to sell the mag extension however.

These guns rule, but ya gotta run good ammo...cheap stuff causes FTF. But this is the king of the slugs! 3" Brennekke's at 100 meters on the paper plate everytime. Recoil is light in my opinion. Enclosed is a pick of my wife shooting 3" 00 buck...kick not an issue!
