Too young to teach?

As a single father of two young girls, I have really kept on the safety in my house. My guns are locked, or placed far out of reach of little hands, we have talked about what to do if they see a gun, and both know never touch! My oldest daughter asks alot of questions, for a six year old, they are rather to the point. How do guns work, what is the different between the auto and the wheel gun. Why do i carry one(Law Enforcement? Lately she asks how to hold a pistol right, how to aim, etc. Is 6 years old too young to begin to teach on a 22? Opinions here, not lectures please.

I think you should teach her when you believe that she is ready to learn.

Both of my daughters were shooting by the time they were six and knew how all my firearms functioned. Start out with a firearm that will fit them; either buy a firearm that fits or alter one to fit. Be sure that they learn all the safety rules. And you must learn the most inportant rule of all; patience!

With some kids 6 is not too young, with others it is. You know your children better than any of us. I think I was in 5th grade, a little older, but did get the NRA course (taught in my school! in the evenings). If she is up to it start her. Maybe start with a youth .22 rifle?

Sound good to me, go for it! I have two sons one 18 mos and one 4 mos. I can't wait till the day we can all shoot with my father.
