Why do tires make noise as an automobile passes?
Comments
In the old school, they would have been humming big time.
Also the treads hitting the road can create a a thumping sound.
Tread design is a science in itself.
Google is your friend.
When a car passes you, it being made of steel, the sound waves eminating from your tires, strike it and bounce back.
More simplification: Your tires are always making noise. You just don't hear it. Not just cars will bounce the noise back. Drive close to a bridge tall guardrail. You will hear your tires from that too.
If you know anything about dolphins and bats terrain avoidance sonar, you will understand sound bounces back off solid objects.
Radar works similar, but with much higher frequencies.
When two penguins rub together it's friction.
