PC problems. Ideas?

My PC is old with XP. It is a AMD AM2+ rig using the Asus M3A78 Pro motherboard.
It has started to go black on start up. It runs but I see nothing so restart and then it comes on (Ask if I want to start normally or safe etc) So far I have been able to shut it down and restart but:
It has been my experience when things start to go south the get worse never better
I believe getting a new MB is the answer and Amazon has one reasonable M3A78CM AM2+ same 780 chip set.
If you know of a reason why this is not going to fix things post away
I have so many things that run on XP I don't care about doing W10 and eventually will get a laptop with 10 for the internet but I would like to keep this running for many other things
Uninstall reinstall video software??

If the monitor responds in any way at power up, then usually NOT power supply or mother board.
If no "beeps". then not memory or mother board.
If initial "splash screen", or at least minimal monitor recognition, then probably a failing HDD.
Use <ESC> (I'm guessing here, but I think I'm correct.) to go to your BIOS immediately on power up. Assuming a correct display, then you can eliminate components. (Motherboard especially and video.)
Remember that the first order of business on start is to read the BIOS, then look for the boot sector on the HDD. I suspect the "blackout" happens as the machine instructs the HDD to initialize. Second time around may wake things up today, but I'd not trust it tomorrow.
Only 50 years in computers so what do I know?
No blue screen warning (usually got that with failing HD)
This MB has always been off. If I get a power spike it resets to default meaning floppy start up which none exist and I have to go to boot conf and delete all HDs from boot except the primary SSD then all is fine again
This going to black is new. I was going to do a XP reinstall but figured I would ask. If you think it is the newer SSD i can buy a new one and install XP there (Or on my other HDs to see if it is OK)

I would opt for a newer system but I know nothing about anything.
