Well my son is about to turn 11 and i'm gonna buy him his first firearm . I know i want to get a 22 single shot rifle but there are several out there and i'm wondering what some of you recommend. It would have to be a youth model. He's about 4ft 5" and 70 pounds thanks for the help guys/gals.[:D]

How about a Henry single shot, they can be had for less than $200. Or a NEF break open single shot. I learned to shoot on Winchester Model 68 single shot. I would recommend one of those, but you may have a hard time finding one.

Look at the Rossi combination gun. Has a 22,22mag or 17 HMR barrel along with either a 410 or 20 gauge barrel and can be had for less than $150.

Im with Allen on the Rossi, you can have three guns in one with the change of the barrel.I shot one of the single shot 22's and it shot good.Seems like a very nice Rifle for the beginner.

I'll second (oops...third) the Rossi. If you wamt a real quality little 22 bolt try the Chipmunk. They can be a little pricey but you get what you pay for.

CZ has a youth model .22 that's not terribly expensive.

My first .22, at age 12, was a Marlin model 99 semi-auto. Not what most people would choose, but I loved it and still have it.

You might want to consider the new Savage model 30 "Stevens Favorite"

    It's on my wish list.

A 22 bolt action single shot having separate cocking.
It will emphasize cocking and uncocking.

Ever thought of buying him one of the older rifles like a 514 Remington single shot? He would love the gun and he would have something to hold on to. I've seen some latly on the auction at a fair price and there good little gun. Just my thoughts.

I'd get one of those surplus military trainers for around 60 bucks and cut the stock down to fit him.
