I saw an odd looking oiler today at an antique shop, it was shaped like an old metal tobbbaco can but it had a threaded brass cap with a brass chain?
what kind of oiler is it? I think it might be from WWI? [?]
anybody know what kind of gun these oilers were for?

Unless it was relly high priced, you should have bought it and posted a DAMN PIC!!!!!
it was priced $10.50
but he said I could have it for $8.00
I'll probably go back tomorrow and get it
it looked similiar to a German tobbaco can cleaning kit in size, except it was an oiler with a brass spout with a threaded cap and chain attached [8D]
He took it home and checked some books he had. Turned out he'd bought a civil war era 'kidney' canteen, worth hundreds of dollars.
About a year ago, my step-son Adam called me, from an estate sale he was at with his Dad. The estate had two US steel pot helmets, with liners, priced at 20 bucks each. Adam said he was buying one, and did I want the other one? I told him to buy it, figuring I couldn't lose much in the deal.
The helmet he bought for himself was a later version with a camo cover. The helmet he bought for me, was an early WW2 'fixed bale' helmet! I gave Adam 40 bucks, paying for 'his' helmet too.
When I sold the one that was mine on Ebay, I gave him another 20!
If it ain't gonna hurt, buy it and take a chance on getting something worth some money!
I did a search and found a picture of the oil bottle I saw today
Im pretty sure this is the same one because I remember the circle stamped into the metal just like the one above, it looks like something a soldier would have carried in his pouch
