Internet speed

One of the 1st things we had to do in my Computer class was to test our speed. When I compared mine to other students mine was the lowest.

So I checked to see what I was paying for and it was 3 times what I was getting. Supposed to be 1.5 Mbps but all I got was .5 Mbps

Contacted my provider and complained. They reset my DSL Modem and got me up to 1.31 Mbps. Much better, and it will improve during none peak hours.

You can check two ways one at your provider(but since I do not trust them used another source) But make sure you use the same hub that your provider does so the number come out right.

The site we used for school was.

http://speakeasy.net/speedtest/ and the city I used was Seattle.
Why don't we go to school and work on the weekends and take the week off!

    Here's the results I got;
Download Speed: 3008 kbps (376KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 248 kbps (31 KB/sec transfer rate)

Is that good or bad or what?

So I clocked our speed with Comcast economy at the best 3 Mbps we can normally watch a Netflix, Amazon or other streaming video fine as long as we don't also try and surf.

The wife's TV is connected Ethernet so it has no issues even when I surf on my laptop.

They are moving us to 25 Mbps which is probably still slow compared to those who have 50-200 or more Mbps but I am hoping to see a big increase in speed/performance for us.

$40 bucks a month to 65 bucks so I hope the 25 bucks is worth it.

Going from 3 to 25 Mbps is a huge change and you'll definitely notice it. Definitely should be worth the $25 if you get that bump. The problem is the ISP's always says "Up to 25 Mbps", so during peak times (which always are when you want to use your internet) your speed will be lower.

Just remember that "up to" always ALWAYS means "less than."

We also use Comcast for internet. Our neighborhood is on copper wire and they have no plans to upgrade us to fiber. Here's what I just ran:

    I may be a bit crazy - but I didn't drive myself.

The best I can get is up to 4 meg.
I would gladly pay to get an upgrade.
    Never going to happen tho.

Our net service costs $35 and we max out at a blazing 1.4mb download 0.55 upload, we have no choice on net service, it is this or nothing.
Just smile and say nothing, let them guess how much you know.

25 will do what you want. The key with Comcast, is to complain to them now and again about slow speed. Magically, it always gets faster when you call them about it.[:I]

    And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
    While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
    Coming down the mountain

How much stuff can you do with 3 Mbps? Is that like dial up speed? Or is 1.4 Mbps more of a dial up speed?

With three we could watch Netflix or Amazon on one tv but surfing would freeze it occaisionally.

Rural South America. Price Less than $20.00 per month and includes FREE nationwide calling. Calls are free but they still charge TAX on Calls [:(]

8 years ago,, 64K and not reliable,
4 years ago,, 1MB and not reliable,
1 year ago,, 2MB and reliable
    This year,, 3MB and reliable

Thinking of upping plan to 6MB. Use Whatsapp (internet) and magic jack for land line.
