Getting rid of moles in the yard??

What is the best way to get rid of moles that are tearing up my back yard? I've got mole-hills so bad in my yard that it looks like a major interstate! I've thought about the traps that can be bought, but I'd like to hear other suggestions as well.

    Like FranF said.
Moles are carnavores, get rid of the grubs the moles are after and the moles will move on, and your lawn will be healthier to with out the grubs eating the roots.

Some guys like a mag full of lead, I still prefer one round to the head.

Used a 30.30 once, but it was a little rough on the tomato plants. Seriously just spray for the insects and grubs, and the moles will move to your neighbors yards.

Don't know if it works but Grandpa (who is gone now)used to open up the hole a bit...place a piece of spearment gum down the hole(don't touch...use wrapper to place it) then cover the hole back up. They should eat it and die.

ruger 10 22 its not so much the gum, It is the peppermint and spearmint they don't like. Peppermint and spearmint oil is a great alternitive for plant/animal sentive areas. Another good trick is hair from pet groomers or the local barber shop.

I've also heard that to get rid of rats on a farm...go to someone that has a ferret and get some ferret poo and spread it around. Maybe this might work for the moles too. Anyone ever did this?

Do they still make those smoke (poison) sticks that you place in the hole, light, then cover? The smoke goes all through the tunnels and kills them.

They had a contest on a local radio station many years ago. The prize was a sixteen ton block of granite for the person who came up with the best use for it. Best suggestion I heard was to bounce it around your yard as a mole eliminator.

Get a bunch of those whirley Gigs, put em in the ground, they cause a vibration that drives the moles out.

Might mess up the nice lawn a bit, but I'm sure an AB, M1 A1 tank would work for ya!

A #1 pan trap and open up a tunnel and set the trap in the run, then cover with a board and shovel some dirt back on top.

Don't use propane and a match as it will blow one out the hole and you will have a flaming mole running for the crawl space on your house (ask my brother [:D])

Actually my wife who hates mice and moles and is not wild about cats has found that if we keep two good mousers around the mice numbers go down substantially and the moles are gone in short order.

You've got grubs get rid of the grubs and you'll have no more moles. Could be worse. My nieghbor has grubs, instead of moles he's got skunks.

If you don't like poisons BT works but won't kill everything in sight. Even the organic crowd uses BT. An other alternative is add another link to the food chain and get yourself a cat.

Tried the bombs, they didn't work (too many tunnels I guess) and get expensive. They also sell machines that produce low vibrations to drive them away. Whirly gigs do the same thing but you need a constant breeze! I like the tank idea, especially if you're planting crops next spring!!

We used to have a dog that could hear and smell them. Everytime I mowed she'd follow the mower around. I think the vibrations of the mower made it where the moles couldn't hear her coming until it was too late.

I have used castrol-oil sprayed on my lawn. I mix it with water and spray. I do this twice a year. Works for me. I have tried all those whirligigs and all they do is nothing but spin. They do look nice though.
