All the money he has and all he does it try crap like this [:(!][:(!]

Sen. Kennedy then introduced an amendment to ban the manufacture and sale of "armor-piercing" ammunition. Kennedy, who actually condemned the .30-30 Winchester cartridge during debate, wants to institute a "performance-based" standard that would grant any future Attorney General sweeping authority to ban any center-fire ammunition, including most common-place rifle hunting ammunition. The standard proposed by Sen. Kennedy was rejected in the 1980s as overly broad and unnecessary to meet any threat posed to law enforcement officers` safety. A vote on this NRA-opposed amendment will take place Tuesday...

They voted on the alternative armor piercing amendment (for stricter penalties against crooks) last night but I didn't see the outcome of the vote.

Kennedy's "cop killer" bill seems D.O.A. -- impossible to enact -- to me. He CLAIMS the bill covers only special AP ammo in each "caliber" and not standard ammo of the same "caliber," but the effect of the bill would be to test everything on the shelf, and ban everything that pierced a Level One vest, and allow a Democrat Attorney General to ban everything he or she didn't like as well. Imagine a Reno with that kind of abusive power. It would quickly result in everything above a mediocre power factor going away, whether rifle or pistol ammo. Entire cartridge groups would have to come off shelves, including .454 Casull and its relatives, .500 Magnum, 7.62x25, .50BMG, .308, .30-06, 30/30, .223, 7.62x39, the "African" cartridges, and you-name-it.

They might even have to try to ban Dirty Harry's .44 Magnum, but that would probably get the attention of even the least knowledgable handgun owners. The hunters would already be having fits over the loss of all the popular rifle rounds above .30 carbine, because all will make holes in a vest.

Such a law would quickly result in manufacturers' attempting to employ different, softer bullets in all our favorite rounds to try to achieve non-penetration of a Level I vest. If such a migration took place it would no doubt reduce effectiveness for normal use. But Glaser and MagSafe type loads would probably increase in popularity on the shelves, while reloaders would be cooking up batches of "contraband 30/30" from their remaining stockpiles -- the supplies for which would be whisked off gun store tables and shop shelves.

Which is why it seems to me Ted's bill can't pass. [xx(]

The only thing such a bill, if enacted, would accomplish is to boost the sales of reloading and casting equipment. Hard alloy bullets can penetrate as well - or better - as any standard SP ammo out there. Teddy is just blowing it out his butt - as always. His only connection to the real world is at the bottom of a bottle.

Teddy the Hutt's ammo ban got shot down big time. (Pun intended.)Something like 56-38. Craig's AP bill passed by about the same. Mikulski's exemption for "Beltway Sniper" victims also lost by about the same. She wanted to exempt the sniper victims from the provisions of S.1805.
Can't you Marylanders vote that disgusting dwarf out?

Tuesday is gonna' be critical. Time hammer your Senators to pass a "clean" bill. (ie. one without ANY anti-gun amendments.)

    Iconclast: great post.

Man, we all should build a shrine to Mary Jo Kopecneke (spelling?). Had not the negliance of Kennedy killed her that night on Chappaqickic (SP?) island, the Kennedy POS would have been president long ago. Or at least had a LOT more power. I really think he trys to pass terrible laws just to get revenge on the public for never forgetting what he did to Mary Jo. To me that poor young woman is a saint.

What a shame. His brother put a man on the moon, Teddy couldn't get a secretary across a bridge. Best part of him ran down his mama's leg.
