It's to bad we can't just shut down the border. Hell if border patrol can't do it's job, maybe this would be a good job for <<gasp>> the National Guard? Shut the border down. Don't let anyone threw except at customs check points. I doubt they could stop every one of them, but they could make a dent in it. And as for armed incursions into the US, well let the Guard deal with em. It shouldn't be to hard for a trained and armed force to deal a sudden and decisive defeat to these invaders.

    "Invaders." "Paramilitary vehicles."

Some folks really do need more attention than others, don't they?

If these were honest-to-gosh "invaders", these folks trying to hype up their encounter to the proportions of Gettysburg would be dead and buried by now. They were outnumbered (so we're told) and outgunned by soldiers... or, if you look at their pictures, six guys in a Jeep.

No evidence of drugs, no evidence of weapons (if those pictures are the best they can offer, they've got a lot more picture-taking to do), and, barring their attempt to make themselves look like "real warriors", no evidence of any hostile intent.

So the dude said, "You can't take our picture." Ooh... scary!

What these folks need to be doing is going after the real threats that are already here: meth manufacturers in our national parks, sex slave owners in our cities, and drug dealers in our neighborhoods.

Hey Munkee: Get your head out for some fresh air. This crap has been going on for a few years now. The Mex Army shot-up a Border Patrol pickup last year with a mounted machine gun and nearly killed the BP agent. Then the Border Patrol threatened the agent with his job if he talked to the press about it.

With only a small portion of tongue in cheek, the answer to the problem is an open season. This would take care of the problem at no cost to the taxpayers.

Simple, build a fence, have a landmine area and another fence, put up warning "If you enter this area you die" It would not stop all but it would certainly slow the torrent. Of course it will never be done. Those illegaly entering get the consideration not the U.S. citizens who through their supposed government have set the rules for entering the country. There are those like the California legislator who was more interested in the "rights" of illegals than the protection of our rights to determine how or id people shouldgain entrance into the U.S.

    Rcdis,

As most barriers in the past have proven to be ineffective at best (Hadrian's Wall, the Great Wall of China, the Berlin Wall), a wall is not the answer. Fences, walls, whatever... all they do is sit there. Give any child, much less a determined adult, one day and the answer to defeating that barrier is quite simple: go around it, go under it, or go over it.

Land mines? We're not trying to stop the Wehrmacht here. For the most part these are just folks looking for a better life. And for that you want to blow them to pieces? God forbid your neighbor should ever ask you for a cup of sugar...

    Lowrider,

I know all about those cases and if these guys had shown some real evidence I would not have slammed them so hardly. As is, what I see are a bunch of folks who couldn't hack it as security guards at the local strip mall, so now they call themselves the "Homeland Security Defense Militia Corps of Really Really Hard Men."

Take a look at those photos and stills. The "paramilitary vehicle" is a Jeep. That's like calling every pickup truck you see a "technical."

I see no weapons and, at most, six "soldiers," not the twenty-two they professed to have seen. If they want to be taken more seriously, then all I'm saying is they need to get better evidence.

For example, "They [illegal aliens, ie, "invaders from Mars"] came back after we had left." Well, how would they know? They'd already left, right?

"The invaders were armed with M16s and FN FALs." Well, the FAL's not a very small gun... where were they in the photos and stills?

These folks were looking for some gullible fool to buy them beers for "protecting our Homeland from those evil, evil invaders", but made about as convincing an argument as a high school sophomore at his first debate meet.

Whish there was an open season (like year round no bag limit) on them. I would be the first one to renew my paper work so that I could hunt them.

True brriers will not stop all, as I mentioned, but they can slow the flow. The point is that U.S. citizens should be the ones to establish the rules for entrance into the U.S. If we cannot inforce this basic right we can no longer claim to be sovereign. The U.S. is full, there is no more room at the Inn. We cannot support the present population, we do not need a massive influx of immigrants from any source. When overwhelmed and our sovereignty threatened, we have the right and duty to take drastic measures of whatever kind is necessary.
Why is it all right to use massive force in protecting the well being of Iraqis, and not use the same force to protect U.S. ctizens. The threat of large numbers of illegal immigrants is far more to the U.S. than any threat from Iraq.

<<Land mines? We're not trying to stop the Wehrmacht here. For the most part these are just folks looking for a better life. And for that you want to blow them to pieces? God forbid your neighbor should ever ask you for a cup of sugar...>>

Actually my neighbors consider me rather generous and helpful. Willing to help out when ever called on. The Wehrmacht would be a more clear target than illegal immigrants. We have a tendency to look on the individual illegal with sympathy, as you state, some one looking to improve their life. It is the massive number that is and will be catastrophic. It is also an affront to the U.S. that the illegals seem to think our laws are unimportant, that their desire to enter the U.S. is supreme to our sovereignty. It appears that the illegals come to take advantage of our economic benefits but have no regard for our culture. They want the bucks but do not want to embrace our ways, our history and our values.

I agree, The US is seen as a lifeboat in a sea of sinking ships. If we allow to many of the poor drowning soals to climb aboard, we ourselves will sink!

We are not big on fences, which seems the only answer. A security fence. We'd be accused of putting up another Berlin wall, I suppose, but a body of 7 million illegals is bigger than most armies, for sure. Trouble with the National Guard is that you can't put them shoulder to shoulder down the entire Rio Grande, and that's about what you'd need to keep them from crawling through the holes in between the guards.

Mexican soldiers entering the country is old news. I have told the story before (here) about the many armed incursions in the San Diego area. The news (print and TV) are not interested in reporting. If the B. P. rounds them up they are told to escort them back to the border and give them back their guns.

The mexican army soldiers are protecting smugglers of drugs and people.

If the 7 million illegals were forced back to Mexico they would overthrow the current goverment. Instead they let/encourge them to go to the US and make better wages, and then send the money back to Mexico.

If you don't live next to the border you don't have a clue as to how bad the problem is. Hospitals are going broke haveing to treat illegals that cannot pay for medical treatment. They go into the E.R. and the hospital has to treat them. Welfare is another thing that has skyrocketed.

Oh, what a load of disingenuous crap. Gee, all these poor folks are trying to do is better their lives, and that justifies them breaking the law with premeditation and full knowlegde that what they're doing is illegal and wrong, is that it? Hell, never mind that they bring in disease and steal and trash the property of American citizens, because all they're trying to do is better their lives, howsoevermuch at the expense of the rest of us. All they want to do is fill in the lowest economic niches in the job market and send a big chunk of the money back to their relatives in Mexico, all the while getting paid under the table by dishonest American employers so no messy tax issues arise. So what if, by being here illegally, they don't contribute to the economy or tax-base of their nifty new adopted homeland? The real issue is that they're only trying to better their lives. And about their kids being eligible for benefits such as free medical care and schooling on the public dole, even though they have no more business being here than their criminal parents who knowingly break the law to bring them here: No problemo! The stupid Americanos are all rich, and besides, they're only here to better their lives, in addition to bringing unexpected gifts to their classmates in the form of various and sundry diseases. And after all, you can't expect their parents to take the time and horrific expense to make sure everyone in the family has their shots, or isn't carrying some bad pathogen into their new homeland, even though that would be the decent and proper thing to do, because, by gum, all they're doing is trying to better their lives! Yessir!

Open them there floodgates, because it's the noble, touchy-feely thing to do!

It always amazes me the mind set of people who say/think we cannot stop this horde of people coming across our borders illegally.
If we can cross the Atlantic and bring down the Hitlers of the world and put a man on the moon then surely we can stop this B.S.
It only takes the will to do so.
    I certainly have the will.

    Xenophobia anyone?

Same thing was said about the Irish.

    And the Italians.

    And the Chinese.

    And the Polish.

And damn near everyone else who came over who "wasn't like us."

"They don't embrace our ways." Well, that about sums it up, doesn't it? If these folks were British there wouldn't be a problem now would there?

"The Inn is full!" Is that why at about 5% of the world's population we still consume over 25% of its resources? We're far from broke and we're far from full. Gross mismanagement at the top is driving us bankrupt, not illegal immigration at the bottom.

And Rcdis, you bring up Iraq... well, as I'm pretty much against having our men and women being blown to pieces at a rate of roughly one a day for a cause I think is spurious at best, my answer would be: it's not okay to spend billions of dollars defending Iraqis.

EMM please try and remember that these people are foreign nationals who are basically telling the citizens of this nation to with our laws and what it means to be a citizen of this great nation.
I live in a sea of these people and dont like it one bit or this country not enforcing it's own laws and booting them out of here.
This nation has the most liberal immigration policy in the world and it should not tolerate a wholesale invasion of people running inside our borders and not following our laws and rules.
Not to mention the astronomical costs and burdens it is and will continue to place on our taxes and social infrastructure.
This has nothing to do about race or the Irish and everything to do with our laws and nations well being.
