Most of the worlds modern inventions and technology came from either the US or pre-socialist Europe. If the world were to fall into a new socialist order, will science and technology take a few steps (or more) backwards? I think they will, perhaps until a new world revolution comes around. Then with the rebuilding after that, it could take many years to get to the point where we are now, let alone past it. Perhaps this is just a cycle and we are as advanced as we will get.

Nothing technologically valuable ever has or ever will ever come out of a third world nation, which are the only places that will temporarily see improvements in their lives with socialism so perhaps we are at the most technological times that will ever exist for the human race?

Being something of a history buff, especailly interest in the "Dark Ages" and medieval Europe, I have mused about this myself. After the collapse of the Classical Age, the Euopean continent fell to darkness. The progress (government, science, philosophy, medisine, engineering) of the previous age was largely forgotten. Survival was paramount, there was no leisure time for intellectual pursuits. I fully believe this will happen again.
The Renaissance and Enlightenment, however, began in the land of the greatest empire in known history, til that time. I expect this will happen again, as well. Times may change, but a people of sound ideaology and higher principles never do.

You have to also consider that some of the nations we now consider to be "third world" (Mexico, China, the Middle East, etc.) were once at the apex of intellectual and/or social progress in their time. But their contributions were largely swept under the rug, because, after all, history is written by the victors.
Fasten your seatbelts, it's going to be a bumpy ride.
