I owned as a kid, it was an entire set as big as an encyclopedia set, hard back bound in dark green

It had stories like princess and the pea, little black sambo etc.

Thanks if anyone can identify it for me and know what publisher to look for

My mom just pulled Little Black Sambo out of a box a few weeks ago.

We read it and laughed. Turned that Tiger into butter and ate 169 pancakes! Black Mumbo ate 27 and Black jumbo ate 55.

I believe I have that complete set of books. They were my Mothers(80) when she was a kid. I'll look tonight and get all of the publishers info etc for you!

    I had that set.
8 or so volumes. Embossed dark green hard cover.

I'll ask my sister to look.

    good luck to you!
finding thye old stories is hard as the old printings are fast falling apart/destroyed and replaced with the new p.c. versions if they are even re-printed at all [:(]
got lucky the other year and found an OLD copy of uncle rhemus (sp?) tales still written in the manor of speech used by the slaves...

IN THE TRASH CAN AT A YARD SALE!!!

they figured it was worthless and left me just take it home! [:D]

    Checked with my sister today.

She remembered them. But we're going to need to send her kids on a search mission. Don't give up hope.

They had some Wyeth illustrations as I recall. High end stuff. Probably 1920-40's.

    Right?

The State Of The Union Address is due out on February 12th, if you would care for something more contemporary.

There is a difference between fairy tale and fantasy. Two separate genres. [:I]

I can't help you in your search, alas. I am also very fond of the original, non-Disney-fied, non-PC versions of fairy tales. The original Grimm's Brothers versions can be pretty brutal.
For instance, in the original Cinderella, the wicked stepsisters cut off their toes in an attempt to fit into the glass slipper, and were forced to dance at Cinderella's wedding in shoes embedded with razor blades.
In the original Snow White, "love's true kiss" did not revive Snow White. The dwarves tripped and dropped her casket, dislodging a piece of apple from her throat. The Wicked Queen had her eyes pecked out by blackbirds at the wedding.

Far more gritty than Walt's versions...
