Maine is currently running a really obnoxious ad, reminding people that if they bought anything over the internet they have to pay Maine state sales tax on it, no matter where it was bought. It's just a matter of time before the Feds figure out how to tax the net. I'm just so thankful that the current Republican administration is spending our money so carefully on stuff like war, the moon, mars, tax breaks for the rich, etc. What's the solution?

"tax breaks for the rich" OMG. I would hope that even though I may "need" a tax break more, my boss or the "rich" guy would get the bigger break since he pays much more in taxes than i do, class envy is a bad thing.

    vote 'em out

    vote'em down

    vote to repeal 'em

problem is that a very large number of the people that do go and vote are on one form of "dole" or another and they ain't going to vote against what is putting money in their pockets

so those that complain need to get off of their duffs and do something besides complain, work to find and field viable candidates and get reform/repeal actions on the ballot

it won't happen overnight, but the longer you wait the longer it will take!

If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!

    Pa,
I really hope you don't mind but I was so in awe of your post I copied it and mailed to my Govenor here in Missouri. I signed with my name so if that isn't good with you I apologize.

The email I got in response was as follows:

"Thanks for contacting Gov. Holden. The governor appreciates hearing from you and values all of your suggestions."

I laughed so hard my wife had to come see what was the matter.

I figure I should be getting audited pretty soon. [}:)][}:)]

    "What the hell happened?"

Well, let's see... in between a governmental laissez faire attitude towards big business and industry that resulted in THE GREAT DEPRESSION and a friggin' World War we had to pay for (courtesy of an Austrian coporal with a funny mustache), a lot came up to destroy the oh-so precious days of yesteryear when women couldn't vote, Chinese men (because women were NOT allowed to immigrate) were by law not allowed to own property, and blacks were second-class citizens.

And you speak of the United States as if we were some destitute Third World wannabe. Despite Bush's best efforts, the United States still has a GDP higher than the next two largest economies combined.

People freak out about how much China spends on its military, but never stop to think that what they spend is one-eighth of what we do.

Texas alone has an economy larger than India's.

And while our taxes are high, at least they don't approach the 50% that the Japanese have to cheat on or the 75% that Swedes have to put up with.

And mind you, without taxes there would be no military (what? They gonna live off of well-wishes and patriotic parades?) to protect us, no FBI to cross state borders when serial rapists flee their hunting grounds, and no Border Patrol (as insufficient as it is, it's all we got).

Could our tax dollars be spent better? Well, I have been saying that for the past three years, but nobody seems to like to listen.

We gotta stop giving so much money away!

Everyone, every country, gets some sort of handout from the good ole USA

Maybe it's time to limit those amounts and see how much surplus there is!

Then, they can eliminate some of these taxes that were added on to fund the give aways.

I measured it and cut it twice, and it's still too short!

So all of those taxes mentioned in the original post are to pay for the items that you mention?

Between Woodrow Wilson (the "temporary" income tax to finance World War One) and FDR - entitlements, we've been sooooo well served by the DemoCRAPS! Once the trough was filled, the rest of the politicos had to go along or be voted out. If I had a time machine, I'd go after those two before I even thought of Stalin or Hitler.

You could cut down your list to just a couple of items if you named the things that aren't taxed.
Food and ???????????????? I know there must be another.......? I'll bet there is a tax somewhere before the food gets to the table though?!
