Bad news from the vet....

Got some harsh news from the vet yesterday....our little rat terrier named "Jet" I got the kids for Christmas last year has some pretty serious heart defects. We took him in to have a cough checked out, and it turns out he has an enlarged heart, possibly with some perforations and fluid in his lungs. Poor guy is only @ 9 mo's old....my 9 yr old son is heart-broken.
Vet says we can medicate him, but he will still not last too long, or we can send him to a dog cardiologist ($$$$$). Can't do that, as much as I would like to. Vet said even that route is not even a 50% chance of survival.
Guess he's going to get spoiled rotten in the mean time. Somehow news like that makes you say "oh, what the heck" when he gets up on the couch like he knows he's not supposed to, or you catch him chewing on your shoe, or nosing through the garbage can....
Man, I hate it when stuff like this happens.
If all you praying folks would send up a few words, all of us here in the goose clan would be most appreciative.

Thanks,
Mike

....That's a tough nut to chew. Sorry to hear about that. I don't know what's worse.....a sudden loss, or knowing that it's coming. My heart's out to you.

Keeping a good thought for the little guy. It is just way too hard to lose a family member. Spoil him rotten for the time you have, and take lots of pictures.

Thanks, gang. I appreciate the kind thoughts. I'd post a picture of the little guy if I had the technical smarts. He's a great little dog, even when he's misbehaving!

I got a puppy once that both mange and parvo at the same time. When she got to the vet wrapped with a hot water bottle, the fleas were jumping off. The vet told me another 20 minutes and she would have been dead.

A week and a maxed out Visa later, she was well enough to go home.

Today she is one of the finest, most loyal dogs I've ever seen.

What value can I place on her?

I will say a prayer for your puppy.

Sounds like the odds are not very good for Jet.
    Best wishes from here.

Never an easy thing to deal with. Amazing how quickly the animals twang the ol' heart strings. Best of luck, your family and pet are in my prayers.

Hell I have put five bucks on a lot worse causes than this one. Hey Nunn, are you going to accept and forward the contributions?

46270...I appreciate the offer, but no need. We're going to get a second opinion from one of my customers who is a vet up in Norfolk, just to make sure. No matter what, this dog has/will have a great life, however much time he has left with us. Terriers are decidedly cool dogs. We're going to do everything we can to keep him around as long as possible.

    Thanks again,
    Mike

From my experience here, this is the most warm-hearted bunch of folks you could find anywhere, and I appreciate the offer of generosity. You guys are the best. Believe me, if the vet said operating was the only way to go, we'd be doing it regardless of cost.
Prayers go a lot farther than dollars, anyway, in my most humble opinion! Keep 'em coming!

    Best,
    Mike
