Two Men Dead after One Steals Front-end Loader
GAFFNEY, S.C. (AP) -- Two Gaffney residents are dead after authorities say one of them attacked the other with a piece of heavy equipment and then was shot by deputies.
Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler says 28-year-old Aaron Saunders stole the front-end loader from a dirt racetrack early Saturday morning and drove it for two miles when a deputy tried to stop him.
Fowler says Saunders kept going, ramming two deputies' cars.
Fowler says 64-year-old James Brogden died after he came out of his house to see what the commotion was about. Fowler says Saunders used the loader to lift a car that then slipped and fell on Brogden, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Fowler says deputies fired at Saunders after he tried to hit them with the loader. Saunders died several hours later at a hospital.
