Be Careful When Renewing Your License Plates

on line. My plates expire at end of August. I was going to mail in my renewal paper work in tonight. While I was looking at the form it said you could do it on line. I typed in the web site that was on the renewal form. So I'm on the sight and start typing in the info. When I get to the part where the amount to be sent in was, there was an additional $16.75 fee tacked on. I said no way and went back to the original search page. The correct web site was 5th on the way down the list. The state only has a $2 service fee for on line renewals.
I'm sure this is pretty much the same when renewing other states plates as well.

Never seen that before; it could just be your state. I always get a renewal notice in the mail, listing several ways to renew. Never an extra charge, I always look for the "secure site" indicator, plus the website will always end in "gov".

The last step in the process allows me to print out a temporary "proof", which I carry in the car in case my renewal gets lost in the mail.

My renewal notice came in the mail as well. If you go down to a DMV service center or on line it is a $2 convenience fee. The only other thing to do is mail it, then it just costs you the stamp.

So here in our little town when you go up to the courthouse to renew your tabs in person and want to use your debit card there is a two dollar "convenience" fee. Cash or check no fee. It just doesn't seem right. Not sure its legal.[xx(][xx(]

Thank you for this little reminder. I have to renew my driver's license in September, and I may not have done it without you posting this thread.

It wouldn't have been a big deal except I can't let it lapse if I want to do it online, and it's $5 cheaper to do it online instead of in person, plus I'd have to go through and take the eye exam and sit there and wait and yada yada yada. Thanks so much for saving me $5, and all that time it would have took me to do it in person. Thanks again

In VA you get a $1.00 discount by renewing online. But you have to make sure you go to the correct webpage.

Reapply with FKWHTS and see if that is accepted.

Sometime ago I was doing on line plate renewal in VA, and noticed that the search had diverted to a pay-for-service commercial website. Backed up, redirected to the State DMN NOW website.

There are folks out there that are willing shear the sheep that do not pay attention.

Not just plates you type a slightly wrong address for on line activation or just about anything and you are getting scammed. They need to follow the money and hang these scum from the street lights.
Why don't we go to school and work on the weekends and take the week off!

Your welcome but almost every one here at one time or another has made a public service announcement of some kind.[:D][:D][:D]

Tags for my pickup cost me $3.75/year. [8D] In Arkansas, veterans can get them for only one vehicle at that price. I just renewed for 2 years last week. BTW- they don't advertise that. I just stumbled up on it about 5 years ago. You have to take a copy of your DD214 with you.
