Stopped at Walmart this morning for oil change

And I'll be damned if they didn't have some 22 ammo. I have never found any at this particular store before. They didn't even have any limit. I took 5 of the 10 boxes they had available. I left the rest for the next guy.

Nice score. I haven't seen any .22 in my local walmart in so long, there are cobwebs in that area of their ammo case.

What size boxes and what was the final cost per round out of curiosity?

So how was the oil change?

CCI 36 grain HPs in 100 round boxes. Walmart sells these for $6.97 each. Makes a $35 brick. I have found CCIs pricey and they do not have as much velocity as other brands despite their marketing claims and the popular perception.

    Oil change went fine.

Well I have mine changed at the grocery store now. Been doing so for the last 3 years. Better then taking the Exploder to the Ford dealer and having them forgetting to tighten the lug nuts.[;)]

If I was doing an oil change, I probably wouldn't even look the lug nuts over.[?]

JEEZ, you let WalMart change your oil?
On the other hand, I know some guys(definitely not me) who'd stand in line to buy the 22 ammo.

The ONLY time any of my vehicle go in for service is if it's something I am incapable of doing myself ~ like a front end alignment or engine computer check.

Regular maintenance if all done personally.

there was a time I did it all myself...hell if I am gonna get down onteh cold hard ground for that BS anymore, its worth it me to pay some else(Chevrolet Dealer) with a lift to do it.

I'm 63 and no longer have any desire to roll around on the floor and change my oil. Besides you can't do it any cheaper then the oil change place or the dealer. Took mine in for one of those $39.95 service pack deals. Part of it is to rotate the tires only the service tech doing the rotation didn't bother to torque the lug nuts. Two days later and 45 miles from home on the freeway there was this horrendous screeching noise coming from the front of the Exploder.

The Dodge dealer runs those 99.99 specials to change the oil in the Diesel truck. Well I buy the Rotella on sale..15 bucks a gallon, filter is 6 bucks and I change the fuel filter 18 bucks ( which is not included on their special ) 51 dollars for me plus the fuel filter. I also know it is done right with all the old oil drained out. Plus the time you have to sit and wait till some 18yr old kid tells you it is done. I also keep my old oil.

I've only had my oil changed at a shop one time and that was because I had a free coupon at a Fire Stone Store and it was done on an old work car of mine. But that's because I've always done it that way since working in my Dad's service station so many years. I can afford to have it changed at the dealer if I wanted to but I just feel more comfortable doing it myself because I know I'm going to do it right. For some people they should never get under a car for any reason!!!!

After pulling my next door neighbors dead body out from underneath his car that had fallen on him I'm extra careful now on how I jack a car up and where I put jack stands even if I use ramps.

My neighbor died because he was young and didn't have a Dad to show him how. He used two bumper jacks to jack the whole front end of his car off of the ground. The bumper jacks evidently leaned to one side and the car, without wheels on it, came to rest on his chest and crushed him to death. He had a big truck wheel under there with him which he figured would keep the car off of him if something went wrong but it didn't do anything to hold the car up. His arm was laying across the wheel when the car came down and broke it into 3 pieces. It must have been a slow death because another neighbor said he thought he heard some one yelling for a while but figured it was just Mike goofing off as he did a lot of times out in the yard playing with his dogs.

If you don't know what you're doing you definitely don't need to be under a car. Losing your life is not worth the little bit of money you might save.

I don't drive my Tahoe enough to have more than one oil change a year, so when I get my no cost inspection done I have them change it. I will do my front brakes this year myself, that is big savings and worth my time.

If you're thinking of using one of those places you really need to go on youtube and type in Wal-Mart oil change and What's Wrong with Jiffy Lube. In the BEST case scenario, those guys are incompetent. In the worst case scenario, they are actually trying to foul up your car.

Really, take 15 minutes and watch a few videos.

Glad you found some 22lr Ammo Doc.

I have been looking for Remington or CCI Subsonic for a while and I have not seen any. There is a gun show in Raleigh this weekend, maybe I will get lucky and find some for under $50 for 500 rds.

    BTW

I change my own oil too, but then I do about 95% of the vehicle maint. myself. Not only am I cheap but I like working on vehicles[;)]

Sam06- Local shop had a ton of CCI sub-sonic about 2 weeks ago. Maybe some will get out your way.

Oh, my usual haunt for buying 22s had some Winchester 333 boxes this morning. About 20 on the shelf. Limit is one. Anymore I don't see a crowd snapping up what's available. I think the purchase limit discourages many of the gougers. Two days in a row. That's a record.

How would you even save $20??? A quart of oil must by $3 by now x 5 quarts of oil. That's $15, a filter has got to cost at least $5 more. There's $20 right there. The guy that changes my oil charges me $20.
I myself can't do it myself for that.

Yeah, and that's kind of the point. There's no reason for them to do a $20 oil change. In fact they're probably losing money on it. And so as you drive your vehicle, after your home your second most valuable possession, into the service bay the guy crawling under it knows that he must find $200 or $400 or $800 of "problems" to make this worth his time.

Sorry, but there's simply too much incentive to find problems that aren't there or to deliberately create one.

Not where I go they don't do much more then to try and sell you wiper blades. They make their money by doing oil changes not doing engine over hauls.

Now if I'd have taken it to the Ford dealer they would have found $6000. worth of work my Exploder needed like the last time I took it in.

When I needed tires the last time I wanted Coopers. They the Ford dealer had a match any competitors price on tires. How ever they said they couldn't get Coopers so I bought them at Farm & Fleet. I run them at about 38 psi during the cold weather months because those freaken aluminum wheels leak. In the summer I can run them lower because then I only have to fill em up once a month.[;)]
