You know, it's an unfortunate incident, but I wonder why stories like this don't read like how they really should. For example...
This story headline would be a lot more accurate if it was worded as follows...
"87 Year Old Killed in Crash with ESPN's Chris Berman's Wife"
Woodbury, CT - An 87 year old man was killed Tuesday afternoon when he was rear ended by ESPN sportscaster Chris Berman's wife. The man, Edward Bertulis, was pronounced dead at the scene after his Ford Escape was catapulted down an embankment after being slammed from the rear by Berman's Lexus. Mr. Bertulis is survived by his wife, (x) children and (yy) grandchildren.
Berman's wife was also killed in the accident.
END

Instead, the story reads like Bertulis arrogantly got in the way of the far more privileged Berman, and his piece of junk Ford Escape impeded Berman's all too important trip to a nail spa appointment which she was late for (which surely no one of Bertulis' means could afford).
The media is pretty pathetic.

FCD it Could have been she came around a curve or over a hill at the posted speed limit and the elderly gentleman was going way below the posted speed limit. Or they were on a four lane traveling in the same direction and he moved over into her lane.
Another article states her Lexus was a 2003 . Driving a 14 year old Lexus doesn't really scream privileged to me
The story reads she was a school teacher and married to Chris for 33 years that doesn't scream privileged to me either
He was 87 she was 67 either one could have been having a medical issue that contributed to the collision.
Doesn't matter...hit someone from behind and 99.999% of the time it's going to be your fault. (too fast for conditions, failure to yield, following too closely, distracted driving, careless, reckless, and the list goes on.) Even a medical is no different, especially when a fatality is involved.
The chances of her being in that .001% group are, well, .001% Yet the media has already assumed this was the case...because, after all, it was Berman's wife.
The article states the Lexus rear-ended the Escspe and then it goes on to state Cathy Bermsn was driving the Lexus. The article doesn't assume anything.
Okay, let me try this one last time...
Read the article again, and tell me (honestly) the following:
1. The article isn't focused on Berman, but rather on the 87 year old driver whom she rear ended and killed. (Honestly)
2. And, that this article wouldn't read completely differently if the driver of the Lexus had not been Berman's wife, but rather a 21 year old Jane Doe from Podunk, CT. (Honestly)
FCD don't worry Austin is listening to ..Thick as a Brick. Mr. Bertulis could have been a Korean Vet but the public wants the claim to fame that the ESPN fallen is gone.
