Daggum lift pump almost left me stranded. Stopped for fuel here in Butte and heard this gawd awfull howling noise, drove it over here to the Ford dealer and found out the howling was the lift pump. Kiss $700 goodbye [xx(]

I'm glad it didn't go when I was up north in that storm in the middle of nowhere.

If this is the only repair I have had to do in 6 years I'm happy with it [:)]

A lift pump is about 75.00. Putting one in is easy. I hope its not 700.00.

My F-250 diesel is now 12yrs old and just last month it left me on the side of the road for the first time ( original CPS went out ) I did have the part with me being I know the cps is the weak link of the 7.3L ( been carrying the spare for 12yrs also ) But do you think ole numb nuts here had a lousy 10mm wrench to change it out [:I]

There was a recall on these and they replaced them. I had mine replaced.

    The injector pump is next

a failing lift pump will kill it

Depending on what model Ford diesel he has. The models 1999-2002 have a frame mounted lift pump and the injectors work as the injector pump. That is why the injectors cost so much. He may have done damage to the injectors. I have a Ford 2002 diesel. The last I checked the lift pump was around $400, but it probably has went up a lot like everything else.

Yeah but that would have meant taking it to the Dealer and letting one of those Infidel mechanics touch it....ooops

My truck is a 2005 and the lift pump is frame mounted under the drivers seat. The failing pump was caught in time, the truck was still running normal but not for long. It had just started to go and not knowing where the pump was the howling had me baffled but it was enough to send me to the dealer to get it checked. Yes the pump was around $400, I didnt even look the invoice over but the bill was $763 for oil change, all filters, pump and a new wiring harness for the pump. Being the work was done at a dealer I know the labor was high. Small price to pay compared to what it could have been had I let it go.

Dennis, quit trying to jynx me [:D]
