Kerry's medals "restored"?

Let me give you this disclaimer. I only caught portions of this, so I may be getting some of it wrong.

Questions have been raised about whether or not Kerry received an honorable discharge when he was first discharged from the Navy.
The question was raised when a report surfaced that Kerry's medals were "restored". If he received a "less than honorable" discharge, any awards he had received would have been revoked. Given this, his medals would not have had to have been "restored" unless they had been revoked.
It's my understanding that this question has been put to the DOD in the form of a FOI request. Naturally, we won't hear about it before Nov. 2 and, if Kerry wins (GAG, RETCh, PUKE) we'll never hear anything about it.

Mudge, isn't it strange how we hear about these things but never hear any follow-up details. If your gag, puke, retch nightmare comes through, then cleaning your guns and checking for any needed maintenance may be the best use of your time you could find.

When I was in the service there were 5 types of discharges: Honorable, General, Undesireable, Bad Conduct, Dishonorable. A serviceman had to screw-up extremely significantly to get into the Dishonorable category, but as we have seen, all things are possible with some people.
