Parts kits -anyone else a kitaholic?

I have really gotten into parts kits the past couple of years. Weaponeer.net is a favorite site. I got the bug after shooting a friends rebuilt semi Vickers. Now I have 2-L1A1,8-CZ26,2-Dp28,4-PPSh48,4-1919a4,4-Bren,MG34,ZB37,1928 Thompson,Sterling,stenMK2,and a start on a M2HB kit. Looking to possibly pick up some Sumois and a MG42 soon. I like the challenge of designing a semi and the history of the weapons.I am a machinist by trade and love the challenge. It is also interesting to look at how some of these guns were built. From the stamped Sten to the beautifully machined ZB37(the receiver is 3"x5"x32".Even with todays modern machines and cutters it would still be a huge project to make that receiver. So does anyone else speak "kit"?

I am muddling my way through an AMD63 currently. Getting the parts count right, and everything to line up can be a realy Beech! I wish I had your machining skills, it would make the job a lot easier. I would buy a 1919 kit if I knew someone willign to help me make it semi.

Yo stripper-tipper, what was involved with the sten build? Cost and difficulty?

My name is richbug and I am a kitaholic... No nearly as bad as stripper tipper, but bad enough. FALs mostly, Ak's, Want to do a CZ-26, and an M2, but won't be for a year or so. I too like making parts, and putting together a puzzle. I had never fired an FAL before or taken one apart before building one. Same with an AK. The ZB37 would be the crown jewel of kit guns if you built it. I read somewhere how many hundred hours of mill time they had per gun.

A kit I wish to build but it remains out of my budget at the current time is a 1919A6 with a linker.

I will own this gun in 24 months or less.....my early new years resolution.

A short barreled full auto sten would be relatively easy, A Semi auto 16" barreled one looks silly when done and I am thinking they are going to be tough to build legally as you need to convert them to fire closed bolt.

richbug, thank you sir. It would be cool to own one though it wouldn't be the most handsome firearm in the cabinet.[:D]

Myself just done the AK & AR boogie, thats enought for me.
Burnt out, also my back has been screwed up big time now for around 4 months.
Cant even pickup the 1919a4 anymore, thats why I bought a semi RPD.
Expected delivery date is now Oct 15th, sure beats April of 05.
But be carefull on the M2HB's, one lil error can take your face off your head or both!
Would love to have a dual 12.4mm Ruskie DSHK kit with the mount.

Check out WEAPONEER.NET for buying kits and build info.RED223 they have the best price on 1919's - $365,and semi parts. The 1919 is a fairly easy build with minimal machining skills needed. You can build these for under $1000 including the kit. Kit $365,side plate $75,internal machining $115 ,trigger $200(for the best one),rivets, sear, plate machining if needed.Hours of belt fed fun PRICELESS [:D] All of the kits I have now are still just kits. I am getting ready to move to America (NV) and I need to concentrate on my parents estate and getting the house ready.I am only working out the semi mods now. The kits like the STEN can be built as a short barreled rifle -w/$200 reg. fee. Or you can make it look like one of the supressed WW2 models with a fake can.I plan on doing this with the CZ26,PPSh 48,Sterling,STEN,and the 1928. Oh yeah I completely forgot about the 2 Finnish snow cap Maxims w/Sokolov mounts I just bought.DUH! Kind of hard to forget those beasts. IMACLONE you need to talk with EZFEED on weaponeer about the DsHK. He is really into them.
