Student Busted For MySpace Bong Photo

(CBS) PLACER COUNTY, Calif. A photo posted on MySpace.com showing a Placer County high school student smoking marijuana has led to his arrest on numerous felony charges including intention to make destructive devices.

Placer County Sheriff's deputies arrested Del Oro High student Daniel Blanchard, 18, on May 5, according to KOVR-TV.

The investigation into Blanchard started after the Placer County Deputy Sheriff Ryan Berry saw a picture of Blanchard smoking a "bong" on MySpace.com.

Berry is the School Resource Officer assigned to Del Oro High. The Placer County Sheriff's department says when Berry question Blanchard about the photo, Blanchard admitted to smoking pot.

Berry then searched Blanchard's backpack and found marijuana, hashish and a marijuana pipe, according to police.

Police said their search of Blanchard's car revealed more hashish and marijuana, compact digital scales, packaging materials, bongs, four knives, more than a dozen hypodermic syringes, gun powder and potassium nitrate.

When deputies searched Blanchard's bedroom they say they found more chemicals used in bomb making and several printed materials on making bombs, including the Anarchist's Cookbook.

Blanchard was arrested on four felony and one misdemeanor charge and booked at the Placer County Jail. Blanchard's $150,000 bail was posted and he was released on May 6. Blanchard's arraignment is scheduled for May 24.

In that case, for the record Ripley16 is...

    A stud

    An excellent shot

A fine loyal citizen (for the NSA).

An honest, law abiding fellow (for the IRS & FBI)

Often confused with Brad Pit (I only play him on TV).

A hard worker (for my boss).

And to all the spammers...I don't really exist, so leave me alone.

If that's true, it is disturbing. One step closer to communism, just like all the other stuff going on lately.

Posting, as he did, certainly established probable cause. Of course, having drugs, scales and baggies, paraphernalia and weapons stashed in every conceivable nook and cranny of ones vehicle, clothing, backpack, and domicile is a smelly sort of indicator in it's own way, isn't it?[:D][:o)]

Apparently- The kid is an idiot, and he'll probably end up with some ACLU lawyer defending his right to privacy or something like that, but the fact doesn't change that the kid was just dumb.

OK- I realize that I am just a country boy and dumber than a bag of hammers- but could someone- ANYONE- please explain how anyone has a right of privacy when the information in question is posted on the WORLD WIDE WEB by the party themselves? Isn't that sort of like doing dope on the sidewalk in front of the police station- and then complaining that they looked????

jeez, some people have never heard of their right to not incriminate themselves or something [V]

I'm not to sure on that one. Whatever you do in private is your concern. Just keep it private. When you post stuff on the internet some one might just see it. If what you are doing is illegal or against the rules of conduct you have convicted yourself by your own actions.
