when the wife and i had are first son i sold my 97 suzuki intruder for 4500.00 to buy stuff for the new baby that was coming. We were young and baby wasnt planed. For some reason it didnt bother me to sell it for this reason. I had fun picking up stuff for the baby. bought all new stuff. 2 1/2 years ago my second son was born. He was planned but two weeks before he was due work decided to lay off over x-mas so money was tight. Well he was born every thing was fine and we got to take him home after 3 days witch happend to be my first day back to work after layoff. well when i got home that morning ( work nights) wife noticed the baby acting funny like twitching so we took him into the local ER. He was having seizers at 3 days old. They life flighted him to fargo and kept him in the NICU for 1 1/2 months. this wife stayed up there with him the whole time. I had to go back to work after the first week. Well as you can imaging it isnt cheap staying somewere for 1 1/2 months so i ended up selling most of my guns. all but the few i had gotten from my father when he pasted. It bothered me to have to sell them but i did it anyway. Now i was just starting to get cought back up to were i could start buying some of them again and work is laying off again. been laid off on and off sense nov last year. man i sure hope shiiit turns around soon. I would hate to have to sell what guns i have left. Anyway i just had to rant to get some pooptt of my mind and would rather do it here then at home. Wife and kids have enough stuff to worry about then my ranting...

The Boss Lady and I have sold off a lot of stuff recently, and have put off a lot of maintenance and repairs. But we've sworn that NO guns will be sold, no matter what. Sold most of our guns during a tight spot many years ago, and have regretted it ever since. Never again!

Yepper btdt, Had to sell my bike,66 corvette,to many guns to mention.Because that was what needed to be done to support my wife and kids.We have to do what needs done at that point in time,it gets better besides they are material things. Then divorced ex wife got everything, big deal started over again.Never give up! Single for 15 yrs new wife had surprise for me at 1st xmas she found and bought back all of my dads guns that I had to sell. IMO you do what you have to, family first no matter what the sacrifices are.It will get better! And the rewards are ten fold.
My best to you and yours, rant away anytime!

I have a pact with my buddies. Never take a gun to the pawn shop. If one of us is going through a tough time, we hock guns to each other.

That way we never really lose them and its an interest free loan with real collateral.

My friends helped me through a lot of hard times!

always put as much of my paycheck into circulated (junk) silver american coins.

turns out it was a good idea.

i have been living well off of them since november last year when the mill laid off hundreds.

wife still has a job and we still have lots of coins.

glad i didn't invest it or trust the fiat currency, a worthless security debt instrument.

    inflation sucks.

Got a few buddies I do that with as well. Some of the guns in my safe are not really mine.

In early 1997, I sold EVERYTHING I OWNED to go to truck driving school. Including my very prized 1969 Sunburst Fender Stratocaster and Kustom amplifier (Just like John Fogerty uses). Sold my guns, my motorcycle, even my furniture.
All I kept was my 1974 LTD, my clothes and some personal memento's such as photo albums.
When I met my current wife, I was still in school and living in the LTD. She paid for a motel room for our 1st night together.

So far have not had too. But When I was laid off in Now I had one pistol in a pawn Shop. Had to get money to pay for a Bid i made on gunbroker. The very 1st thing I did was get that pistol out.

Really hope jobs pick up soon. Getting ready to go on the ext. to unemployement.

If need be I can make it but will be real tight on my Military retirement. Anything could really upset it.

Been poor a time or two and sold everything, kinda regret some of the guns.

What mill were you with, the one in Bonner MT? or another Plum Creek?
I got some parts from *, trying to get the boss to put them in but we are cut back pretty hard right now and just reduced hours again.

I always thought that was a sign of being an adult,to do or sell what ever is needed to take care of your family,I have sold numerus motorcycles and 4x4 toys over the years for different reasons,a couple years back the wife had some bad health issues, insurance was good but we still had a big chunk to pay and I did not want to go into savings,I had a safe cleaning, anything I had not shot in the last 2 yrs excluding family pieces went up for sale, raised 10k in about 3 weeks,,there is nothing I own,no material thing that can not be replaced ,I would regret selling something with memories buy my family comes first,,out of several gun safes there is only 1 gun I will not part with,I am the youngest of 4 boys,on our 16th birthday our father bought each of us a brand new Browning Sweet Sixteen,My father was killed in a plane crash just a few months after my 16th birthday and my 16 is still as new

All my knives and guns except for one 10/22 and two sidearms are living in the pawnshop, as we speak.

My x is being obstructionist in complying with our court ordered settlement.

    So...I'm poor for awhile.

But - it will get better.

    A 1967 Fender Stratocaster. [:(]

It was a "Frankenstrat," it had a '67 body and a '72 neck. It was the best strat I ever played, I was unemployed and needesd money for rent and child support.

We moved here to Georgia from Ohio and I had a really hard time finding a job in the area in which we moved to. So things being what they were I sold my 66 Mustang that was 98% restored. Hated to see it go but the family comes first.
